"Biolan" yearbook staff dedicate the 2013-2014 yearbook to Jim Johnson. He is joined by his family to celebrate his Christlike service. Afterward, Lisa Ishihara discusses the tendency of people, even Christians, to turn to sin when faced with stress and turmoil. She explains that instead, people must turn to God who can provide true comfort and relief. Ishihara encourages her listeners to think of someone with whom they can discuss difficult sin and struggle.
Global students share their stories of coming to Biola and facing significant cultural differences. They explain how their identities became less closely tied with cultural acceptance and encourage their listeners to earnestly seek understanding and value of others who are different from them. Dr. Jamie Campbell shares her story of coming to the United States from Japan, as well.
Dr. Katrina Greene looks at the story of Jesus healing the paralyzed man who came through the roof in Mark 2. She explains how this man and his friends demonstrate a model for overcoming obstacles in our own lives. Dr. Greene emphasizes that Christians must have a willingness to pursue creative solutions and a desire for the character of God if they are to achieve God-inspired goals.
Mike Ahn considers the nature of the human heart in response to blessing and happiness. He explains that happiness is only found in God, and yet so often people turn to other things. Ahn urges his audience to reflect on their own idols and remember that they are only fulfilled in God.
Dr. David Horner discusses happiness, using Psalm 1 as a foundation. He explains that, while Christians can be skeptical of happiness as its own principle, Scripture speaks quite positively of happiness on multiple occasions. Dr. Horner explains that true happiness is that which aligns with God's word.
Matthew Barrios and Chelsea De Luca lead their listeners in a time of reflection. The speakers present artwork and ask their audience to consider how the imagery in these works bears on each of their spiritual lives.
Josh Sofaer, Los Angeles Branch Director of Jews for Jesus, leads his audience in a traditional Passover Seder. He is joined by a family who demonstrate the Seder, Professor Paul Rood as narrator, and a number of musicians. He explains the deep biblical roots of the Passover and the amazing relevance that the Passover Seder has to Christians today.
Dr. Barry Corey discusses the encouragement of words and especially letters as demonstrated in the epistle of James. He shares variou stories of being encouraged by others and relates these to principles in Scripture. He is joined by Stan Jantz, Chariman of Biola's Board of Trustees, and together they conclude with a short Q&A session.
Dr. Todd Pickett leads students in a time of reflection on the preceding week's them of creation stewardship. He is joined by students who share the stories and goals of the ministries they are a part of. The students invite their listeners to be involved and to always be praying.
Stephen Fitch, President and Founder of Eden Reforestation Projects, shares how his organization is contributing to restoring ecosystems and societies in various places around the globe. He explains how Scripture demonstrates a crucial connection between people and place.
Pastor Robert Campbell of Santa Margarita Community Church explains the fundamental unity between people and place. He encourages his listeners to love and serve the people and place directly around them, knowing that those will mutually serve one another.
Dr. Ken Berding examines the parable of the talents from Matthew 25. He explains that Scripture seems to indicate that this parable is not about ability or possessions, but rather about the knowledge of Christ. He urges his audience to share the gospel and carry whatever knowledge they have forward. With much knowledge, Berding says, his audience is responsible for much growth for the kingdom of God.
Rick Bee shares key biblical insights about managing debt. He goes on to explain how to assess finances and create a budget that will be aimed at successfully removing debt.
Pastor Chip Ingram discusses stewardship, and explains from Scripture how God blesses generous people. He urges his listeners to give freely, because the Bible is clear that God's blessing is aimed at further blessing others.
Dr. Natasha Duquette examines the position of rest taken by Mary of Bethany. She draws on artistic and poetic representations of this rest to consider how Christians might best learn from her example. Dr. Duquette relates this rest to a student's position as a Christian scholar.
