Today on the Basement Vic talks about the launch of epn.tv and how he planned to get everything in one place. He also shows off more cool collectibles in the Basement. Some viewer questions are answered and we talk about needing more inspiration from the industry.

Today in the basement we have live streaming video again! Vic and Scott talk about the new PlayStation 4 and developers of the PS4 console. Also, Marissa Roberto is on the show and talk about her move to Vancouver and interview experiences. Spoilers: We find out the secret behind the lustre of Team Lustrous' hair. Oscar fever has gripped both Scott and Vic. Symptoms: Fever, chills, and the sudden ability to do a passable impression of Ellen Degeneres. Scott and Vic discuss, in detail, two of their Oscar favorites: Spike Jonze's Her and Martin Scorcese's The Wolf Of Wall Street. The Her discussion, naturally, leads into a lengthy (and mostly interesting) discussion about our personal obsession with smartphones and screens. Listen and learn, young Padawan. Finally, Vic describes a Mandarin collectible in great detail, which makes Scott angry and then ultimately sleepy. Mandarin voice: "Scott will never see Vic coming."

Vic and Scott discuss Ken Levin's decision to move to a smaller development team which leads into an in-depth talk of how unsustainable the game development industry is to its developers and needs to change. Tropical Freeze is lots of fun, but is very difficult. Scott gives updates on the Men's Olympic Hockey game and they cover the full gamut of excellent games and movies happening these days! This week on The Basement, Vic's good mood continues as he returns from a family vacation to Disneyland. His only grousing is about a certain ride that features a certain fedora wearing whip-cracker. Also, Vic and Scott discuss OlliOlli. Scott reveals something he likes to call his good gaming days of 2014. (He's had two of them so far.) Vic and Scott take "Le Basement" on the road. Next stop: Montreal. Yes, this week's episode was recorded in Vic's hotel room in bone-chilling downtown Montreal. The boys discuss the latest game from Eidos Montreal: Thief, which is a reboot of the 1998 PC classic. Then, for the second week in a row, Vic spends lots of time grousing about the state of the industry while Scott tries to give him a pep talk. Yes, Vic and Scott seem to have reversed their roles here in 2014, with Vic providing the rain to Scott's sunshine. Scott does, in fact, find something to grouse about. The bane of his existence is not poorly-made videogames; it's the decorative pillow/filth magnet that Vic chooses to leave on his bed in his hotel room. Anyway, all of this will make sense, we promise, as soon as you click the thing over there.

This week, down in The Basement: Vic and Scott are still rubbing the New Year's dust out of their eyes. But they bolted several cups of coffee and managed to have not one but TWO passionate conversations this week. The first one deals with action figures. Yes, Scott puts Vic on the hot-seat about his love of action figures. Scott actually sounds fairly genuine in his quest to understand Vic's affinity for all those little bits of plastic. And then Vic goes off on a rant, which is typically Scott's domain. He's got a bone to pick with in-app purchases and how they're totally harpooning the game industry. It's been years since Vic delivered a rant like this. And it'll be more years before he delivers another one. Seriously, Vic's rants are rarer than Too Human sequels. Enjoy.

Vic and Scott return to The Basement for the first episode of 2014. They discuss some of the ways that 2013 personally disappointed them, focusing specifically on their heartbreaks. Yes, 2013 was an off year for games, to put it mildly. And, yes, Aliens: Colonial Marines is mentioned for what will be the very last time on the show. (We hope.) Also: Ken Levine, if you're out there, Vic and Scott tell you what you should have done to make BioShock: Infinite better. (And, in the future Ken, always come to us with your gaming problems! Our fees are extremely reasonable.) Finally, there's some new console-related chatter, for the PS4 and Xbox One owners out there. Press the thing over there and start your 2014 off right. Can you believe it's the last podcast of 2013? Time sure does fly! We bid adieu to another great year of games in fine style though, don't you worry. Ben Silverman Skypes into the basement all the way from Berkeley, California. Yes, Ben was the only member of "The Gang" who couldn't make the trip to the studio for our annual Rocket & Raygun awards. All because he decided to make a baby about 10 months ago. So, instead of trying to get a word in edgewise between Jose's impressions and Scott's gassy monologues at the R & R's, we decided to dedicate AN ENTIRE SHOW to his wisdom, his wit, and his lightning-quick brain. One thing is for sure: Ben knows games, as well as anyone on the planet does, and he proves that fact again and again in today's metaphor-filled podcast.
