Guy has returned from Walton country ablaze with success after bagging multiple Mooses…meece, mice? LOT’S of plural Moose. So no matter what he says after this, he’s obviously lying. WWDC 21 starts on Monday which is probably when most people will hear this podcast. So there’s no real point in speculating much about what it’ll all be about. So a few randoms things will be thrown in instead.
Today Guy is in Walton country apparently he’s decided that he and his his family are going to spend time together and have no electrical equipment so they all have to call out goodnight to each other. Though before they reach their destination we did try to connect with Guy but couldn’t.
We are about 2 weeks away from WWDC 2021 and expectations are high! As in, anyone making predictions and claiming to have any accuracy is probably on illegal medication. That won’t stop the GMen from making predictions though because they’re naturally high…on LIFE!
According to some, Apple and Google’s market dominance in Smartphone operating systems is stifling competition. While some of their points are valid, they also are ignoring the consequences of opening the ecosystems to everyone.
WWDC is coming up in less than a month so we’re bound to hear about all the great changes in Apple’s various operating systems for developers. Except there’s one that rules above all the others. Be advised there's no after show this week due to some technical issues with the recording software. The whole second part of the show would have been lost except we had the video recording that we were able to pull from. Sorry about that.
The first products from Apple’s last event are starting to show up, but we figured everyone is tired of talking about that OLD stuff. So let’s talk about what might (by might we mean eventually) be showing up at a slickly produced and kept at about an hour or so Apple event near you soon.
Apple has their Spring Loaded event and all kinds of goodies have been pushed out, though will the GMen bite at some of them? Maybe or maybe not.
So they’ve only gone and done it, Siri let the cat out of the bag and announced before the official announcement that there is going to be an Apple event next week, now granted someone had to ask the question, but hey if you get enough monkeys typing then they’ll produce Shakespeare, and no I’ve never believed that is true, but there are a lot of monkeys asking Siri questions!
Everyone seems very upset with Apple for how hard it is to switch between iOS and Android if you decide to leave the platform. Is it all that hard and what are some of the costs involved? Also, we try to not curse on the MyMac Podcast, but sometimes we mess it up.
No March event and the crop of “we don’t actually know anything, but refuse to shut up about it” websites and “journalists” seemed to maybe have learned a lesson about announcing Apple events and are staying quiet. I’m sure this will be the ways things are going forward and we can expect thoughtful analysis of Apple news and events AFTER they’ve happened and not before…APRIL FOOLS! Speaking of fools, Gaz asks Guy some serious questions and got semi-serious answers! Left us stunned too.
Don’t you just LOVE how analysts and tech guessers spend SO much time in trying to tell us exactly what Apple is coming out with next thereby spoiling the surprise from everyone else. Oh and the added benefit of doing Apple’s detective work for them to fire leakers when something is reported that only one or two suspects were told about? Well there’s an apparent Apple event next month and rumours are flying! So let’s talk about that….which verifies and justifies the time spent on stupid rumour stories to get podcasters to talk about it, however it doesn’t count for us since we’re doing it IRONICALLY!
Life was so much simpler back in the day. You’d grab a microphone, turn on something to record yourself, and you were good to go. Now it’s all about social media, multi-channel DAWs recording into a livestream while monitoring chat and trying to keep yourself from getting strikes that could collapse the whole house of cards. OH, and still trying to be interesting. Or maybe that’s just Guy.
Five MyMac Podcasts ago was our 550th one. It was mentioned just before and here we are mentioning it after but not exactly on the date. Why? There may be one of two reasons. Either we thought it would be funnier this way during our daily MyMac production meetings or…we forgot after talking about it the week before. Also there’s some stuff we’d like to see, go away, or come back. Sometimes all three at once.
Other than rumours, there’s been no recent talk from Apple about the next round of M-series computers, but a lot of people have been talking about the iMac as possibly the next Mac to get the MMMMMM put in it.
Several US states are trying to advance laws meant to let developers distribute and sell apps outside of Apple’s iOS App Store. North Dakota, Minnesota, and Arizona all have bills in the works to prevent Apple from retaliating against developers that use other means to distribute their apps.
