SEVEN - 7: It's easier to keep God at a distance by talking about Him instead of to Him; to do theology and treat Him as the object of a conversation rather than inviting Him into our lives for personal interaction and relationship. In the letter to Philadelphia Jesus connects to the city through different images so that they, and us, realize that He wants their faith to be personal and transformative.

We are all missionaries. Jesus has opened the door to the eternal Kingdom and is giving us opportunities, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to reveal the Gospel to everyone around us. Paul shows us how to study, research and understand a culture for the sake of the Gospel. We are called to look at our culture of movies, technology, books and life experiences with "Gospel" eyes in order to uncover God's work around us. We examine our culture and share our understanding in order to connect and move our friends and family towards the open door - Jesus.

SEVEN - 4: The recent film Inception is all about impacting someone's life by implanting an idea in their mind, based on the premise that a single idea from the human mind can transform the world. Jesus agrees in this passage about Perganum. Christian discipleship is a battle for the mind - a war being fought every day not with bombs or guns but ideas. He knows that if the world around us captures our minds we will always struggle to be disciples in the world but not of the world. If our minds can be shaped around him we can be successful in the high calling of loving, worshiping and following Jesus in our world today.

SEVEN - 3: White-collar, domesticated, middle-class Christianity needs a wake up call and in this letter Jesus gives us one! He encourages Smyrna and his followers all through history to be faithful to him in the face of the day to day pressures of our lives. Everything from persecution to running businesses to raising kids brings with it a pressure when following Jesus. But does he always promise to lift the tribulation of our lives?

The story of Jonah and the great fish is often seen as a children's story. But it is anything but that. The book explores God's challenge to us all when it comes to religion, spirituality, and idolatry and points toward the true and better Jonah, Jesus.

SEVEN - 2: Jesus encourages the church at Ephesus in their diligent, gospel-oriented work - faith that filters down to real life change - but says he has found a major flaw in them as well: they have fallen out of love with Him. They have lost their first love. He then helps us to understand what to do about it if that happens.

SEVEN - 1: Things are not as they seem. There is more to the world than we think. Before the letters to the seven churches begin, we are introduced to their author, Jesus. But not the Jesus we are used to thinking about - the poor Galilean peasant, who told stories, walked on water, and was crucified, Jesus as he was in his incarnation. Revelation unveils a different angle on Jesus. The veil is pulled back and we see the unseen reality of Jesus and the present world. This is the beginning of our journey down the rabbit hole.
