In our breakneck-paced culture, worry has reached emotional epidemic levels. We are the most anxious among all of God's created beings. We have numerous phobias. Our diseases are often emotionally induced. We can trace many of our battles with common problems, such as insomnia, obesity, alcohol and drug addition, pessimism, and headaches to deep-seated unrest in our souls. What nervous, tense creatures we are! Surely God did not design our bodies to endure such self-imposed stress. Questions Christians Ask read more
Dec 2, 2013 - Dec 3, 2013 1 Corinthians 15:12-57 Epitaphs are strange things! Some of them are profound. Most of them are brief. We've all read tragic epitaphs…and even a few that make us chuckle! In his immortal work on the martyrs done in the sixteenth century, John Fox listed some of the epitaphs that appeared in the catacombs beneath Rome. Nov 27, 2013 - Nov 29, 2013 Matthew 21:1-17 We Christians are notorious for answering the wrong questions—questions no one is asking. And when we do answer the right questions, we often do it in a way that doesn't connect—we either fail to identify with people's struggles or fail to answer in terms they understand. Christians need to take time to answer a few of the more significant biblical questions people have. And many of those questions have to do with the identity of Jesus. Who is He? Why did He come? What did He teach? How can I connect with Him? Questions Christians Ask read more

Nov 22, 2013 - Nov 26, 2013 Job 1-2 When we suddenly lose someone or something important to us, the loss often feels unbearable. Hurricanes that devastate entire shorelines; earthquakes that collapse freeways and buildings; and floods that lift homes off their foundations and send families rushing for safety. And if natural disasters aren't enough, we can all think of the cruelest tragedies of all—schoolchildren randomly gunned down by their own classmates. What If You Suddenly Lose Everything? read more

Nov 20, 2013 - Nov 21, 2013 Ecclesiastes 12:8-14 Solomon's pilgrimage was quite a journey from the depths of despair through the slough of despond to the ragged edge of disillusionment. Caught in the jaws of his horizontal perspective, the man screamed his skepticism across life's landscape. He did not mince words as he declared his feelings about humanistic, empty philosophy: vanity of vanities, all is vanity! His key phrase, repeated numerous times, was “under the sun.” But as he approached the end of the journey, a light started to shine. Hope emerged. Doubt dissolved.
