Today John Taylor Gatto is back for this long awaited part 3 interview with me, and we’ll be discussing the true definition of liberal, the CFR, Prof. Carroll Quigley, Prof. Antony Sutton, Douglass Reed, Edward Bernays, Charlotte Iserbyt, The Great Books of the Western World, and the state of compulsory education. As a prerequisite to this interview, you may wish to go back and hear my two previous interviews with Gatto, episodes #68 and 69 – which are packed full of information, as well as episodes #49 and 50 with Gene Odening on the trivium and quadrivium. John Taylor Gatto – probably the most famous school teacher in the world, and he was New York State teacher of the year when he quit on the OP Ed page of the Wall Street Journal in 1991. John climaxed his teaching career as New York State Teacher of the Year after being named New York City Teacher of the Year on three occasions. He quit teaching on the OP ED page of the Wall Street Journal in 1991 while still New York State Teacher of the Year, claiming that he was no longer willing to hurt children. Later that year he was the subject of a show at Carnegie Hall called “An Evening With John Taylor Gatto,” which launched a career of public speaking in the area of school reform, which has taken Gatto over a million and a half miles in all fifty states and seven foreign countries. In 1992, he was named Secretary of Education in the Libertarian Party’s Shadow Cabinet, and he has been included in Who’s Who in America from 1996 on. In 1997, he was given the Alexis de Tocqueville Award for his contributions to the cause of liberty, and was named to the Board of Advisors of the National TV-Turnoff Week. This episode is an interview with Dr. Jason Martineau “The Spiritual Dimensions of Music” and is being released on Monday, March 28, 2011. My interview with Jason was recorded on March 24, 2011. Jason Martineau is an award-winning composer, pianist, arranger, and instructor, and has been active in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1995. He is a graduate of the University of South Florida, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Manhattan School of Music, and has composed numerous works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo piano, and chorus, as well as a full-length musical, multiple film scores, and over 200 songs, both instrumental and vocal. Dr. Martineau has recorded more than ten CDs in various genres, and has also been featured on numerous other artists’ recordings, as pianist, music director, and producer. He provides scores, arrangements, original compositions, soundtracks, sound design, accompaniment, private instruction, and musical direction for a diverse and eclectic client base. Dr. Martineau works in multiple capacities with many different idioms and styles, from world fusion and jazz, to avant-garde, industrial, rock, pop, and classical. Recently he orchestrated string arrangements by Vanessa Carlton for her latest album “Heroes and Thieves”. He has also authored a book on music theory released October 2008 entitled “The Elements of Music,” published by Wooden Books and Walker Books/Bloomsbury, distributed both nationally and internationally. His film scores have been featured in documentaries broadcast on PBS stations around the US since 1998. He also provides music cues and backgrounds for a large variety of multimedia projects. He has been playing the piano for 36 years, performing since 1989 at numerous venues in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York, and more recently, the 10th International Festival of Dance and Music in Bangkok, Thailand. OLSEN, Ph.D. Professor of Philosophy & Religion at the College of Central Florida, Scott first received international acclaim by successfully decoding the geometric mysteries of Plato. His book, The Golden Section: Nature’s Greatest Secret received rave reviews, and in 2007 was awarded a 1st place for design by the Bookbinders’ Guild of New York. A life-long student of the Ancient Wisdom, he has studied under physicist David Bohm, world religion expert Huston Smith, sacred geometers Keith Critchlow & John Michell, and esotericist Douglas Baker. A member of the Theosophical Society in America, Scott lectures widely on the Perennial Philosophy (in both its ancient and modern forms) with special emphasis on the Divine Proportion and transformative states of consciousness. My interview with Michael Labossiere was recorded on January 09, 2010. Michael LaBossiere is a guy from Maine who went to school in Ohio and ended up in Florida. Professionally he is a philosophy professor at Florida A&M University. He started teaching there in the Fall of 1993 and greatly enjoy his choice of careers. He teaches a wide variety of classes that range from Aesthetics (theories of art and beauty) to Theory of Knowledge. His first philosophy book, What Don’t You Know? hit the shelves in the spring of 2008. He also blogs for The Philosophers’ Magazine and has numerous academic publications. In addition to his love of wisdom, he has a great love of running. Michael started running at the age of fifteen. He tried out for the basketball team, but sucked badly. The coach told him that the track team had to take anyone and suggested that he become a runner. It turned out to be a great choice. He ran in high school and then ran in college. He kept running in grad school and still runs today, mostly to combat the effects of pie consumption. He is a member of the Gulf Winds Track Club, the local running club in Tallahassee. Michael also enjoys the martial arts, specifically tae kwon do. He started training in grad school at Ohio State and still practices today. He enjoys the physical and mental training. Plus, hitting a punching bag is a great way to burn off stress. It also makes it possible to survive committee meetings. He started gaming (Dungeons & Dragons) when he was 15 and fell in love with the idea of creating worlds and stories and ended up writing professionally for several game companies. Yes, gaming is for nerds- he freely accept his nerdtastic ways. He also enjoys computer and console gaming. Despite playing far too much World of Warcraft, he claims he is not obsessed with games and alleges that reality is still much better than virtual reality. He is very fond of animals and has two cats (Ash & Zax) and a hyper husky (Isis).
