Tweet This is something I am delving more and more into as time goes on because the return on energy input is so effective.  I am working a great deal now with native fish species and I think this is truly the way forward for such things. Sure you can break your neck trying to breed tilapia, once you get it right you have 6-7 months to grow them out and either they die in the cold or you have to provide heat to keep them alive. When we look at using local species we can collect them for almost no cost, adapt them quickly to systems or small ponds and simply grow them out to harvest size.  I am also not separating aquaponics from aquaculture today because in reality aquaponics is a form of aquaculture the two disciplines have some differences but in the end both can produce fish or shellfish for our consumption. TweetI have been asked if I think the Weber Kettle is the best charcoal grill on the market.  My answer to that is a definitive no.  The next question then is why do you love it so much.  Well first in my opinion it is the best charcoal grill under 200 dollars on the market, perhaps the best (from a versatility stand point) under 400 dollars. Next is how portable it is.  While full sized, you can toss it in a truck bed with ease due to its light weight.  Secure it with a bungee or a ratchet strap and you are good to go.  Sure the “Big Green Egg” is better in many ways but I can’t load it into my truck for a tail gate party with no effort at all.  I can also buy two Weber’s, Charcoal and a quarter beef or a pastured pig for less than one full sized Big Green Egg. Another reason I love it, is this is the grill our Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers cooked with.  This grill was first released in 1952.  This is the grill packed into the back of 47 Fords and 45 Chevy trucks and taken out to the country side by the post war generation while raising the baby boomers.  It became a symbol of our freedom in our nation, to go where we wanted and see our beautiful country.  No other grill can really make this claim. Many have come and gone but after 65 years the Weber is possibly more popular than ever, with a loyal cult following that even Jimmy Buffett would envy.  Today we discuss making great meals on the Weber Kettle and some cool hacks and accessories to use with this great grill. TweetWhat Truly Defines a Nation vs. a State? In 2014 I first conceived of the concept of a “Virtual Nation” in episode 1428 and it was huge learning experience.  The most surprising thing was when I asked people what would they put in the constitution of a virtual nation, some of the first ideas were things like term limits and restrictions on elected officials. What?  Why would you have elected officials in a voluntary society?  That was my reaction and what I learned is even in the liberty community how entrenched the concepts of statism are. Not long after this, the first proclaimed virtual nation (BitNation) was launched.  Along with that I took another look at the concept in episode 1561.  Since then BitNation has yet to do much that I can see anyway, though I am officially a citizen, there isn’t much you can really do yet inside it. Then this week I was listening to podcasts on the Let’s Talk Bitcoin Network and came across this episode, State Change #41 Unpacking Digital Identity – Christian Lundkvist, Stephen Wilson. The guest brought up a lot of challenges with digital identity including layers of identity, such as how much identity does a given action require.  Such as to play an online game you don’t need to reveal as much information as you do to say request a loan. They seemed pretty resigned to still needing the state to acomplish much of this, however, it led me to what virtual nations should really be doing to create a “first product”.  A true and validated identity that anyone would accept.  While it sounds complicated, it really would not be.  It would also be a source of initial funding for a virtual nation and provide a creditable base for everything beyond that.  Make sense?  If not tune in for a revolutionary idea that I have been working on in my head for over three years now.
