If Corey Eubanks is doing his job correctly you’ve likely never heard of him, but if you’ve ever wanted to know who was behind the wheel of the General Lee in the early 1980′s you know his name well. His dad, legendary game show host Bob Eubanks, helped him land his dream job as a stunt person on the Dukes of Hazzard in 1981, and he’s been flying high in cars ever since. He was the youngest person ever to jump the General, and his Hollywood career has lasted 30 years. He’s jumped the Mercury in the movie Cobra, done work on the A-Team, Transformers, Starsky and Hutch, and most recently in the movie Fast Five in doing the major bus flip at the beginning of the movie! I asked Corey what his favorite muscle car has been that he’s performed on screen with, and he was quick to say that it was the General because it was his “first love.” He’s driven many, and to date he’s the only person still jumping the “GL” (as he calls it), though he’s not sure if another opportunity will ever arise. Corey on the set of Fast Five As a kid of the ’80′s it was always my dream to jump the General Lee, and Corey described in full detail how the stunt performers survived the whole thing. To begin, the car was weighted in the trunk to keep it from tumbling end over end in flight. Second, nitrous oxide systems were installed in the car to give the extra kick of speed required to proper the General up over the kicker ramps that would launch the car up high in the air quickly. Third, and probably most importantly, the driver of the car was suspended from the roll cage of the car first via bungee cords, and belted into the seat second. The weight of the driver was almost completely suspended as a result and the end result was that he or she would not compress any vertebrae upon landing. Cool, huh? Corey and Bumblebee Corey still does stunt work on a regular basis but has also started organizing a sport called Auto Barrel Racing. Think of it as horse barrel racing, except with cars. Really! If you’d like to hone your stills at driving and drifting, check it out. You can also visit Corey on his Facebook page. Thanks for the interview, Corey! Keep up the great work. Thanks as well for teaching me as a kid that cars can fly! -Robert Kibbe TheMuscleCarPlace.com | Muscle Cars for Sale

Feature Segment Todd Gartshore of Baer Brakes This week’s podcast guest is Todd Gartshore from Baer Brakes. Today Baer is known as an industry leader that produces some of the best brake kits in the world, be it for a street car or a race car. Like a lot of things though, what we know as Baer Brakes today is not how it all started! It’s actually an offshoot of Baer Racing, Inc., and they specialized in building hot race-caliber Mustangs. Through that process they came up with a braking system that worked well and gave them an advantage at the track, and it was something that other racers immediately noticed.  Interest in their brake packages grew and following the 1993 race season, Hal Baer partnered with Todd Gartshore and Robert Sommers to form Baer Brake Systems. Baer's 4-piston caliper "Track-4" kit mounted on a '65 Olds. The kit includes 13" rotors! Today Baer makes a braking system for nearly every muscle car application out there, from a stock system upgrade, to drag race brakes, and to big road course and autocross brakes. They do all of their machining in house and have oodles of experience in getting their systems right from the beginning so that they can be as “bolt-on proof” as possible. Some of the little things that they do to ensure a quality installation are to pre-pack wheelbearings with RedLine grease and to make sure that if you purchase a pre-bent line from them that it’s actually bent in the correct places to fit your car! These may seem as “small potatoes” to some, but for those of us who have built a few cars we realize that it’s the little things that can be the most frustrating. When a company takes the guess work out of retrofitting modern parts onto old cars, it’s appreciated. Thanks for the interview, Todd. I look forward to the next one! “Double Feature” Segment Jeff Allison came on this week’s show to give a full update on the Chevelle build, and I just put out a full blog post on the topic. The good news is that Jeff is a motivated guy and that National Parts Depot carries all of the sheetmetal that we’re going to need.  The bad news is…well, we’re going to need all of Jeff’s determination and all of NPD’s sheetmetal to put Humpty Dumpty back together again!  Check out the full write up here: The Chevelle’s Sheetmetal List; Everything Must Go! -Robert Kibbe TheMuscleCarPlace.com | Muscle Cars for Sale

This week’s podcast show guest is none other than driving superstar Mary Pozzi. An 11-time SCCA National Autocross Champion, autocrossers everywhere know, respect, and fear her as her skill behind the wheel is legendary! She and her husband David Pozzi (a legend in his own right) are a husband and wife team of racers, and while Mary works for AAA during the day, her evenings and weekends are spent building and racing her ’73 Camaro as well as instructing others to drive better and faster. At the track Mary’s driving instruction is sought out on a regular basis by men and women alike. She’s likely never been to a track day and spent the entire time driving her own car as she’s too busy helping others! Mary is a huge believer in driving education and would recommend to anyone that before they drop $10,000 on a hot engine that they instead invest a fraction of that and attend a driving school. She’s also one of the few people that I’ve met that truly understands the science and physics of the human body when behind the wheel, and how a simple thing like arm placement and steering wheel size can affect lap times. She’s also a moderator on all of the popular forums related to Camaro’s and pro-touring, so look for her guidance there as well. I think you’ll really enjoy Mary’s personality as well. We spoke about a range of topics I never thought we’d ever get into, including horses, romance, and Toyota’s “unintended” acceleration problem! Thanks for the interview, Mary! After our interview Brock Yates sent me a note that you and James Shipkas are driving the One Lap Camaro in the One Lap of America this year. I look forward to following your progress and hope you win the class this year (again)! -Robert Kibbe TheMuscleCarPlace.com | Muscle Cars for Sale

Chuck Hanson is a man that likely needs no introduction. He’s been involved in nearly every aspect of automotive media imaginable from print, to online, and to TV as the co-host the show Horsepower on Spike TV. Since 1996 he’s been the president of ACES, the American Chevelle Enthusiasts Society. This is a national organization made up of, you guessed it, Chevelle fans. Chuck runs every facet of the organization, writing and editing their bi-monthly magazine titled “Chevelle World,” manning the nightly Chevelle Tech Support line, and organizing the big annual Chevellabration event in Nashville. Chevellabration gathers Chevelle owners from all over the country and while it was originally an event for 64-72 model cars, the newer ’73-87 Chevelle’s and El Camino’s are allowed in now as well. The event caters to people with stock and modified cars, there is a literal “bench race” involving people pushing tool benches, and Detroit Speed hosts the autocross! If you’re a bow-tie A-Body fan, it’s heaven on Earth. During our interview it was hard for me to listen to Chuck speak without hearing his booming baritone voice and picturing the guy that I had watched on TV for years. He’s just as nice off camera as he is on! ACES can be reached online at www.chevelles.com/aces. Thanks for the interview, Chuck! My ’64 and I will see you soon! -Robert Kibbe TheMuscleCarPlace.com | Muscle Cars for Sale
