The Secular Bible Study

Atheists Talk Cable Show - Video show

Summary: Atheists Talk cable program by Minnesota Atheists. "The Secular Bible Study" recorded 6/4/2009 James Zimmerman interviews Grant Steves of Minnesota Atheists and Chester O'Gorman of Trinity United Methodist Church discuss the Secular Bible Study project. Secular Bible Study is a joint effort between Trinity United Methodist Church and the Minnesota Atheists group. Our intent is to bring a variety of people together to study the Bible -- not from any particular religious tradition meant to nurture people in that tradition. We hope to provide serious education that, in particular, takes the historical and cultural context of the Bible seriously so that we might better understand its meaning. We will also have expert guest speakers to lecture on particular topics and lead study. Secular Bible Study also has another intention: We seek to facilitate respectful and constructive dialogue between people of different perspectives, such as between Christians and atheists, but not limited to these two groups. We do this in the hope that the group will not only learn skills that make constructive dialogue possible; we hope to provide the opportunity for folks who might deeply disagree to build relationships with one another. Minnesota Atheists practices positive, inclusive, active, friendly neighborhood atheism in order to: - Provide a community for atheists - Educate the public about atheism - Promote separation of state and church http://www.mnatheists.org/
