The Michael E. Gerber Radio Show

The Michael E. Gerber Talk Radio Show - Big Voices in Small Business show

Summary: This is an ENCORE episode from July 9. Michael interviews Uddhav Giri who owns a Chevron station in Citrus Heights, CA, near Sacramento. Uddhal is originally from Nepal, and has been in business for ten years. Uddhav’s single, biggest problem in business at this time is getting financing for expansion. Last year they applied for a bank loan to knock down the auto repair part of their business, expand the convenience store, put in a carwash and smog bay and do the landscaping. At the last minute, the bank only agreed to give them the money to expand the convenience store. The bank said that after Uddahv finishes contruction, opens the store for business and show profit, only then will they will lend Uddahl the balance in Janurary 2010. Uddahv completed construction and showed a profit, but then the bank said that they don't loan to gas stations anymore. Without the completion of the landscaping, the city will not replace Uddahv’s temporary permit to operate with a permanent one. Uddahv needs only $350,000 to complete everything, but banks do not want to loan to gas stations. His business is at the maximum allowable $250,000 through SBA. The problem is that he needs to complete the project to continue making his property and initial contruction payments.
