We discuss how quick society can go down hill without power. Victims of Superstorm Sandy have figured out quickly how dangerous it can become with no power, no food and scant police protection. There are several areas where citizens are arming themselves and hunkering down as roving bands pose as Utility workers. There has been reporting of "dumpster-diving" for food just 3 days after Sandy. We discuss the similar outcome of an EMP but with no hope of the power coming back on within a year of the event. The Engineer referenced this 2008 Commission on EMP report. We discussed the Carrington Event - an insightful book called 'The Sun King" about Here's "The Sun Kings: The Unexpected Tragedy of Richard Carrington and the Tale of How Modern Astronomy Began" The author's site for the book is Stuart Clark Learn about a world-wide event in 1859 called the Carrington Event - if this size event were occur today the entire globe could be in danger of losing electric power. There are natural sun-cycles that indicate we are overdue for another Sun-caused event
