Buffy fights to stop The Harvest The Slayer and her new friends learn that Sunnydale is not always Sunny. ---------------------- Show Notes ------------------------ Buffy The Vampire Slayer 0102 – The Harvest * Special thanks to Aminos (mispronounced) for the use of A Calmer Storm as the music for the podcast. * Opens where we left off, Luke going to bite Buffy. * Is thwarted by the cross Angel gave her. * Buffy goes out into the graveyard and hears willow and xander being attacked. * She fights off the vampires. * Can’t find Jesse, he was grabbed by Darla and taken to the master. * Credits * Library scene where Giles tells them about how the earth originated. * Demons walking the earth. Made it their hell * Certain magicks and creatures are what is left of that early beginning. * Xander and Willow are being initiated into Buffy’s world of things that go bump in the night. * Xander is still in disbelief, Buffy goes through all of the reasoning that she has been through before. * Willow believes it but is silently freaked out. * The last demon to leave this reality fed on a human and drank his blood. * Origination of vampires. Now the first man was possessed by the demon’s soul. He bit another and then another and so on. * Giles: “And so they walk the Earth, feeding, killing some, … waiting for the animals to die out and the old ones to return. * Giles seems surprisingly accepting of the fact that Willow and Xander know about Buffy. * We see Giles aversion to technology. * Jesse is delivered to the Master * Master is upset that Darla bit him first. * He doesn’t want her scraps. * Darla tells the master about Buffy, at this point they realize she is a slayer. * Library – Giles tells Willow and Xander the summary about Buffy being a slayer and tells them to keep it a secret. * Willow is still freaked. * Willow asks if they should call the police. * This is a good first question even though they blow it off. It may seem like the answer is obvious, but I think this is the natural thought progression for someone like willow and I am glad that they included it. * This is the intro to Willow being a computer whiz. Looking for city plans that detail the tunnels under the city. * Master’s Lair furthering discussion about slayer. * He tells Luke she can’t interfere with the Harvest, they decide to use Jesse as bait to lure her to the underground church. * Luke: “I thought you nothing more than a meal boy. Congratulations, you’ve just been upgraded to bait.” * You get the impression that maybe they are going to leave him alive to use him as bait. The twist comes when you find out they turned him into a vampire and then used him as bait. * Buffy and Willow are using the Internet to look at the city plans. * Buffy is frustrated, she was obviously unprepared. She is sort of starting to realize this is her responsibility. * This may seem like a 180 from her attitude in welcome to the Hellmouth but I think they are trying to make a stepwise transition. At this point Buffy’s concern is simply going in to save a friend from vampires. I think in her mind this is a rationalization. She is not accepting her duties as a slayer fully her concern is Jesse. I think that in her mind she felt like, I will go in and save Jesse and then go back to trying to get away from all of this. * It is when we find out about the Master’s Master Plan that she takes another step to embracing her destiny. * She realizes the mausoleum is the entrance to the lair.
