PGKC 018: Pillars of the Earth

Kings Court show

Summary: Derek reviews Pillars of the Earth (http://www.mayfairgames.com/shop/product/3300-4499/pages/4103.htm), a board game based on the novel (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0451207149?ie=UTF8&tag=pugathpagapo-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0451207149) by Ken Follett. This one stood out as soon as we opened the box because it is absolutely beautiful. As we started to play we realized the game mechanics were just as masterful. We had a blast playing with it. You have to balance your spending, your resources, and your ability to convert those resources. There are branching strategies and always something to entertain your brain with. The theme is to work together to build a cathedral but it is your personal victory points that will grant you the win.
