Summary: Justin Snead is a storm chasing photographer from the US whose work is largely guided by extreme weather events. He’s been lucky enough to set up his work life balance to enable him to take time out to shoot when the storm season in the midwest of the US is at its peak. For Justin, it started when he was driving one day in Minnesota and noticed an unusual cloud in the sky as it swirled along the rural landscape. Luckily he had his camera with him and he began clicking away. His phone alerted him of an approaching tornado, a surge of adrenaline rushed through him, and he knew he was in the right place, doing what he was meant to do. Since that time he’s developed a spontaneous style that ignores some of the technical niceties of photography, but that shows the power and magnificence of extreme weather. We discuss how he stays safe in dangerous weather conditions, his balancing act of work and photography and how he’s learned to read storm structures to get the results he wants, along with lots more!
