Summary: This week we went back to 1982 for Bobs pick Poltergeist. This film manages to pull off the near impossible feat of a PG family horror film that scares children and adults to this day. Written by Steven Spielberg, Michael Grais and Mark Victor and directed by Tobe Hooper (a credit that seems to be debated to this date) The movie is brought to life with the acting talents of Jobeth Williams as Diane Freeling, Craig T. Nelson as father Steven Freeling accompanied by the amazing child actors Dominique Dunne as Dana, Oliver Robbins as Robbie and the adorable Heather O'Rourke as Carol Anne. The Freelings' start noticing strange events in their home. It quickly becomes clear there is a haunting but where at first the spirits appear friendly and mischievous things soon turn more sinister until the youngest of the freelings is abducted by the spirits causing the Freelings to enlist the aid of Dr Lesh played by Beatrice Straight and psychic Tangina lovingly portrayed by Zelda Rubenstein.Working with a modest budget of under 11 million this film managed to slay the competition at the box offices when it hit theaters on June, 4th 1982 bringing in a whopping 121.7 million dollars.Movies Against Time is a bi-weekly film retrospective podcast hosted by married couple Sylvia and Dustin along with long time friend Bob.
