The British government funded the ship with a loan and it first sailed in 1934. During WWII, the ship operated as a troopship carrying Allied soldiers, nicknamed the Grey Ghost. After its retirement, this luxury liner was moored off Long Beach, California and has been made into a hotel and tourist attraction. One of the most haunted hotel rooms in the world is Stateroom B340. Another popular ghost is John Pedder, a shipmate killed by Hatch 13 in the boiler room.
