ICS/IMT: Critical Importance of the Medical Unit

Between the Slides show

Summary: As a Medical Unit Leader (MEDL) student the Dutch Creek Incident involving the death of Andy Palmer on his first wildfire assignment stayed with me throughout my IMT career.  As an all-hazards MEDL I strove to implement the lessons learned from Andy's death and to work closely with my teammates to contingency plan and make sure we could always get to our people if injured and get them to definitive care as soon as possible.  In this episode I share some key tools and the mindset I believe all-hazards Medical Unit Leaders should apply. "Between the Slides 5" for this episode: * Do the job for real * Don't half ass the ICS 206 (Medical Plan) * Document who you treat and pre-screen your teammates * Create and communicate the contingency plan * Don't rely on Operations' resources. Request and coordinate your own.
