Colts Cast: Positional review heading into the offseason | O-Line

Stampede Blue: for Indianapolis Colts fans show

Summary: Today we continue on with our positional outlook for the Indianapolis Colts as they head into a pivotal offseason under Chris Ballard and Frank Reich. We've gone through the receivers, quarterbacks, running backs and tight ends, and now we need to look at one of the position groups that achieved great things for the offense somewhat unexpectedly. Going into the season, everyone was excited about the prospects of rookie Quenton Nelson, but most fans and analysts weren't very high on the right side of the Colts' line. And rightly so. However, as it turned out, Matt Slauson did get injured, but was very good while he was healthy. Mark Glowinski filled in, and did so well that he earned himself a 3-year extension with the Colts. The right tackle position was a mess in training camp, but another rookie, Braden Smith, also surprised everyone with how well he could navigate the position and remained the Colts' starter throughout the remainder of the season.  The Colts received very good contributions from Evan Boehme while Ryan Kelly was out with injury, and they still have some familiar faces, with experience that they can work with for depth at a couple of spots along the line as well.  Now the process of determining what to do through free agency arises. Do the Colts go after one of the more seasoned linemen in order to top off their line, spending starter money at one of the positions to create that starter competition through camp? Or, do they try their hand at finding the younger, more underappreciated talent in free agency? Additionally, the Colts will have a look at the NFL Draft and see what they can grab there as well. This will be a key offseason in terms of finding that good depth along one of the best lines in the NFL in 2018 should some sort of injury arise with a starter. We'll see what Ballard chooses to do, but here, Matt Danely gives his opinions on the offensive line as the Colts move into the offseason. Learn more about your ad choices.
