The narrative is structured around an interview Jackie gives a week later to a journalist (Billy Crudup) summoned to Hyannis Port to publicize her version of events, flashbacks to the television tour she conducted through the White House earlier in the presidency (revealing her nerves and insecurity), and nightmarish flashbacks to the assassination itself.
