A MONSTER CALLS

Landmark Theatres Film Club Q&A Podcast show

Summary: J.A. Bayona (director), Lewis MacDougall (actor) and Sigourney Weaver (actor) speak with Landmark Theatres. Film synopsis: A Monster Calls is a spectacular and unabashedly emotional drama from director J.A. Bayona (The Impossible, The Orphanage). Lewis MacDougall stars as 12-year-old Conor, who’s forced to deal with far more than other boys his age. His beloved and devoted mother (Felicity Jones, The Theory of Everything, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is ill. He has little in common with his imperious grandmother (Sigourney Weaver). His father (Toby Kebbell) has resettled thousands of miles away and started a new family. But Conor finds a most unlikely ally when the Monster (portrayed by Liam Neeson in performance-capture and voice) appears at his bedroom window one night. The Monster—a huge walking and talking yew tree—agrees to help Conor, but there are conditions. First the Monster will tell Conor three stories. On the fourth night, Conor will have to tell a story to the Monster. Ancient, wild and relentless, the Monster guides Conor on a journey of courage, faith and truth that powerfully fuses imagination and reality. Screenplay by Patrick Ness, based on his award-winning novel.
