Episode-1487- Ian McCollum on Military Surplus Rifles and More

The Survival Podcast show

Summary: TweetCheck out InRange.TV Ian McCollum is a firearms writer and researcher specializing in arms from the 1880s to the 1950s or so.  He is interested in the mechanical details of different firearms designs as well as their use in practical field situations.  Ian has run a web site on these guns called Forgotten Weapons for about 4 years, and his work has appeared in publications including Gun Digest and the Canadian Press. Ian has just recently released the first episode of his new project, InRange TV – an online TV-style show focusing on interesting factual and detailed content, without the drama and BS that is endemic to gun programs on cable TV. He joins us today to discuss how older guns can be just as good as the modern AR-15 while costing less and looking better.  We start out with what Ian feels is the current best deal in old military arms for long range shooting.  We then discuss how shooting skills translate from one type of gun to another. We continue with some of the best ways to improve your shooting skills and have a discussion as to is the AR15 really even a “modern firearm” at all and have we gotten out of hand with accessories, add ons, etc.  We finish up with why Ian feels that all gun-related shows on cable TV so horrendously dumb and why Internet Television may be the answer to better gun related video content.
