Movies, literature and television challenged more sexual taboos than ever before and possibly ever since. Film and theater especially broke down barriers, starting what is considered to be the height of sexual expression in our pop culture. These works include Myra Breckinridge, Hair, Boys in the Band, Midnight Cowboy, and Deep Throat. In his book, Sexplosion, Robert Hofler weaves a lively narrative linking many of the writers, producers, and actors responsible for creating these works and places them in their historical context.
