Summary: Short and long term recovery periods are an essential aspect in balanced, safe and effective training programs. Do you schedule annual "rest" periods or pay much attention to your recovery process? Not only do you get stronger during the rest cycles, you also allow your immune system and energy stores to replenish. The harder you train, the more critical it is that you allow your body to recuperate. Injuries, fatigue, boredom and even overtraining syndrome can result from improper recovery. Even fat loss will be enhanced if your body gets adequate rest. Don't be one of the many who overlook this key component in the overcompensation process.
