Liberty Conspiracy - 6-25-13 Richard Matheson in Memoriam, pt 1

Liberty Conspiracy show

Summary: Welcome back to the Conspiracy for freedom... In this production, we combine part of the live radio program with a special recorded segment and some music to create an audio memorial to the man who was probably the most influential genre writer of the 20th Century. We pay a debt back to Mr. Richard Matheson. Listen for the music from things like "Kolchak: The Night Strangler" and "Kolchak: The Night Stalker", the second and first of the TV movies he wrote for Dan Curtis and ABC television. Listen for some humor. Listen to the opening song "Sea within a Sea", by The Horrors, a song about taking risks and going for your dreams and knowing that you are not alone in your life. And listen for the reading of "Pattern for Survival" at the end of the audio. It's one of Mr. Matheson's earliest tales, and he'll grab you in it. Then, as we close, listen for "Oceans Burning", again by The Horrors. It's a song that can be taken two ways, as a testimonial by a man who lost someone dear, who didn't believe in the hereafter, but now sees evidence of it in the ghost of the loved one proving it, or it can be taken from a slightly darker perspective. Sure, the singer might be seeing someone return, but it just might be someone he killed. Great, evocative song from those UK musicians. And it fits with much of what Mr. Matheson explored during the last fifteen years of his life -- the prospect of the metaphysical... We'll talk more about Mr. Matheson in an upcoming program.
