46 – Brian Kibby: President McGraw-Hill Higher Education

Dose of Leadership with Richard Rierson | Authentic & Courageous Leadership Development show

Summary: Brian Kibby is the President of McGraw-Hill Higher Education & is passionate about Leadership, Education, & Innovation. I'll let Brian's own words tell you'll understand why I chose to interview him: "The most powerful word in the world is the word “action.” If you want to achieve your dreams or to help others achieve theirs, action is the word. The ability, willingness, and the guts to act (now, immediately, today!) is the single greatest dream-maker and success factor. That’s it. That’s the secret. That’s the ball game. I have interviewed and hired thousands of winners and success-makers. I have also had the good fortune of working with global thought leaders and CEOs. I cannot think of one person who was more brilliant than the other. Yet, all of them have one thing in common: they all have the guts to take action toward their goals and dreams. That’s it. The ability to put one foot in front of the other, to keep moving, to take action. That’s the secret. It is the ticket to wherever you want to go or whoever you want to be. I am not smarter or better than you or anyone else (my ACT score, wife, children, and friends will vouch for that). I have, however, been very blessed to have people who have cared enough about me to help me (a lot) along the way. Anyone who tells you that they are self-made is either not being truthful or they’re just being foolish. No one gets anywhere without help and a lot of it. The combination of wisdom and support from those in your life and a consistent ability to act, is the most powerful recipe for success."
