Summary: Shut Up Crime! Itâ??s a trip into Etc territory this week as we take a look at a particularly specific subgenre of film: real life superheroes. In recent years there has been a rash of movies featuring similar themes of the everyman suiting up to fight crime with varying degrees of success. The crime fighters may not always be up to the task but the films featuring them have demonstrated a consistency worth discussing. From mega-budget studio features (Watchmen, Kick-Ass) to the ground level independent producers (Defendor, Special, Super), a range of titles have explored the messages behind the motivations of characters who have decided to try making a difference. The recent films comprising the majority of the episode discussion are led by a review of the history of this unique sub-genre including a debate on how Unbreakable fits based on the information the film gives us.
