Maritere is an award-winning author, bilingual and bicultural parenting expert, influencer, features writer, and speaker with a master’s degree in communications from Pepperdine University in California. Realizing she could combine her two life passions, writing and motherhood, Maritere became a voice for Latino parents long before the existence of online parenting resources. For twelve years, Maritere wrote a highly regarded and influential parenting column for La Opinión, the largest Spanish language newspaper in the country. During that time, she also wrote for the national magazines Ser Padres and Healthy Kids en Español and Exito! Chicago. For four years, her articles appeared in Vista magazine, distributed nationally and online via the ImpreMedia group, in the top 15 U.S. Hispanic markets. A parenting blogger since the fall of 2014, she is a contributor to online publications like Connect Her Media, Dual Language Schools Organization, and HipLatina, and she is a guest writer for Huffington Post. Maritere has been featured in Alegria Bilingual Magazine, Latina Style, todobebé.com, mamásporelmundo.com, El Nuevo Día, and El Post Antillano, among others. She has also been featured in many popular podcasts: Super Mamás, Bilingual Avenue,and the New 30 Podcast. Listeners this week we're back with Luis Miranda Luis s a peacebuilding professional specializing in capacity building, youth leadership development, and restorative justice processes with communities affected by armed conflicts and historical harms. Luis has facilitated dialogues and leadership development workshops for youth-oriented initiatives in North America, Europe, East Asia, and Latin America. He has also participated in the efforts of the United Network of Young Peacebuilders in 2014-2015 which lead to the Amman Declaration and the passing of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security. As an activist under the #JusticiaYa movement in Guatemala, Luis organized waves of peaceful demonstrations nonviolent demonstrations which managed to oust the country’s presidency in 2015 and then led a series of workshops to shift the movement's advocacy efforts towards legislative reforms. Under the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace in Colombia, Luis conducted extensive field work with eight regions affected by the armed conflict in a project aimed at preparing civil society actors to participate in the implementation of the Colombian Peace Agreement. Along with UNDP Colombia, Luis organized a national summit for young people working for youth across Colombia, served as organizer for the national network, and conducted capacity building work. Over the last year, Luis has been involved with projects preparing members of religious groups for dialogues, including the Intereclesial Dialogues for Peace in Colombia (DiPaz) and the Madrasa Discourses project at University of Notre Dame. Currently, Luis is doing grassroots capacity building work with refugee and migrant families in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he is also a faith community organizer for the sanctuary movement, helping distressed migrants find refuge. Luis is a graduate from the London School of Economics and the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame and a member of the Obama Foundation international network. Listeners, Luis and I have an amazing conversation and we cover his childhood in Guatemala, losing his dad and the tragic story of losing his sister. TRIGGER WARNING! Luis shares his experience growing up in Guatemala during the Civil War in the 90s and he describes the time he lost his sister due to the crime and violence the country was experiencing at the time. Locally, she served as a volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club at Capitol West in Salt Lake City, where she worked with culturally diverse teens and presented with the SMART girls initiative. Krystal has over seven years’ experience in B2B tech marketing and thrives on recommending solutions that drive results. She has worked with hundreds of clients ranging from mid-size to large enterprise Fortune 500 companies and has been involved in raising over $4 million in venture capital. In 2012 she served as the VP of Events for the Utah American Marketing Association and in 2017 was a Women Tech Awards Nominee. Krystal’s work to advocate for women in business and mentor youth have fueled her success and notoriety.
