All About Windows Phone Insight Podcast
Summary: Discussion about the Windows Phone ecosystem from the All About Windows Phone (AAWP) team. Covers the key stories: device launches, apps, games and services.
In what is seemingly an annual podcast now(!), I chat to AAWP regular Mark Swidler about the new Microsoft Surface Duo, plus we report on his Lumia 950 woes and possible search for a replacement. Why should you abandon Windows 10 Mobile in 2020, and why should you think about sticking it out a little longer? Surprisingly, the humble phone microphone set plays a big part here. See what you think in this hour+ show!
OK, it's been a while. Rafe is so busy these days, I thought I'd do a special podcast (maybe one of several) with guests. Starting with Mark and Lee Swidler, who have been helping me with my Lumia 950/Nokia 9 comparisons. In Phones Show Chat 491, they went into detail on the new Nokia, but here they focus more on the '950', which has been serving them both well for three years. But for how much longer, for both the hardware and the OS? I investigate, in audio form!
With Rafe Blandford still buried in work, I enlisted Steve Heinrich to fill in on the AAWP Insight podcast, in a whistle stop tour of recent stories and with a few rants and opinions along the way. See the show notes below!
After something of a gap, we're back - Rafe and I chatting about the goings on in the Windows and other relevant tech world. In particular we chat about the new Surface Go, the possible delay to Surface Mobile, and about the recent BBC4 documentary.
I catch up with Rafe Blandford and we cover some of the good new UWP apps reviewed on the site, plus we chat more about the 'thousand cuts' editorial and - yes - there's a little more Surface Mobile gazing, spurred on by Paul Thurrott's glimpse at Microsoft 'internal documents'.
With Rafe having a busy week, I catch up with Steve Heinrich and mull over the balance between Microsoft and Google, between Windows 10 Mobile and Android. Turns out my 'thousand cuts' article rang true with him. We mull over Photos and the Store in particular. Plus we indulge in some Surface Mobile optimism - again.
I collar Rafe for a chat and catch-up - we talk PWAs, platforms, the changing of UIs and form factors, Skype and Teams. And a few tangents besides. So break out your classic 8.1 Lumia, unfold your Surface Mobile cardboard mock-up and sit down for a chatty 41 minutes of Insight!
It's a fair cop, it's been a few weeks since the last one, but Rafe and I finally got together for another podcast, almost an hour long, chatting about some new UWP applications and some breaking news, but mostly debating what platform and what devices Windows phone enthusiasts might like to consider 'next' when the time comes.
Rafe Blandford is back! In a late night, chocolate-fuelled podcast we chat about both current news and older matters, picking our favourite Windows phone of all time - which turns out to be the same and a sister device to a Symbian flagship. There's then a focus(!) on phone imaging generally, before we sign off on a quarter of a century of AAWP podcasts.
With guest Matt Lacey sitting in for Rafe Blandford this week, we chat about his new book 'Usability Matters', about the Windows 10 'app gap', about Podcast Lounge 2, and about the devices he and I have been using.
In this week's podcast, Rafe Blandford and I chat about the pros and cons of Windows 10 Mobile versus jumping to (e.g.) Android, helped by the appearance of the new Galaxy S9. Fear not though, as there's plenty of monthly update chat plus app reviews, and more...
In another extra length podcast, Rafe Blandford updates us with his overview of MWC 2018 and this year's mobile trends, plus we chat UWP applications, classic Lumias, OS security, and more....
With Rafe prowling the halls at MWC, I recruited Steve Heinrich to be my guest as we chat about some of this week's stories on AAWP, along with a tangent or two along the way, including the interfaces of Windows Phone 8.1 vs Windows 10 Mobile...
In this week's podcast, Rafe Blandford and I chew over the last 10 days worth of stories and news, covering Windows Hello, PDF reading, PWAs (again) and Operation Elop (oh boy)... See the show notes below!
Guest podcaster Matt Lacey comes in to chat about some of the stories of the last week or so. We cover Wileyfox's slip into administration, expected application lifetimes and compatibility, Microsoft's upcoming developer events, and whether there's any point in being on Insider rings for Windows 10 Mobile anymore.
