Chopping it up with Julian Riley of Harlem Blue Beers on @athinktankinharlem and we got to kick it about his beer business, his background and the future of his brewing company. He is definitely a Very Cool kat and as he tells it, his cool personality and his passion is part of the recipe for his beers.
I wanted to create an inspiring gospel mix for folks who don't normally gravitate to gospel, while having it also appeal to the seasoned gospel listener. This mix embodies many traditional gospel elements and it is infused with lots of rhythm and blues from some gospel heavyweights. These songs were cherry picked from hundreds of titles. It sounds like my daddy's gospel.

I used to love listening to WBLS. Asides all the music that our mamas and daddies introduced us to, listening to WBLS alongside their notable djs and radio hosts is definitely how I developed some of my musical tastes. That said, when it came down to RnB/Soul... WBLS was like the King of things... My favorite personalities were... Hal Jackson, Mister Magic, Bob Slate and Mtume, Micheal Baisden, Wendy Williams, and last but certainly not least Frankie Crocker! Mr Magic + Marley Marl Nowadays, my favorite personality is Deja Vu, but the entire BLS family is still strong. This mini mix captures the essence of WBLS's soulful musical direction. SASA'S LOUNGE 924 COLUMBUS AVE, BET 105&106 ST Black History is a month long ceremony in February that examines and celebrates the lives and various achievements made by our kinfolk… past and present. It was started by Carter G. Woodson as an effort to bring to light th...e often-neglected accomplishments made by Blacks. Our ancestors have fought long and hard before achieving the proverbial Civil Rights honor and although Blacks have had disproportionately less access, opportunities and freedoms in comparison to Whites, most Black folks were connected through their pursuit of happiness and by the color of their skin. During those times, Black people showed a lot of strength, commonality, unity and pride. They coined a saying like “Black is Beautiful” and they were unmistakably considered a Negro because they had that shaded skin color (unless they were passing)… However, things have changed. …In recent times, debates have surfaced as to whether or not Black History month is even relevant; and the irony with that thinking stems from the fact that some of the people asking that very question are Black folk! Go figure. That stirred me but the truth is, every once in a while we need to be reminded that... BLACK IS STILL BEAUTIFUL! Busta Rhymes is easily one of the most beloved hip hop artists of all time, and definitely one of my favorites. Busta first jumped on the mic in 1991 with his L.I homies, Leaders of the New School and since then, he’s collaborated with seemingly everyone, staying atop the charts, and most importantly, he’s been consistently creating hip hop and r&b magic… and reggae too. Busta is so versatile, that he’s penned hits with Mariah, Tribe Called Quest, Janet, Chris Brown, T-pain, Mary J, Trey Songz, Rick Ross, Diddy, Latifa, Missy Elliot, Wyclef, John Legend… top charting reggae artists… and scores other. His music is typically full of energy and wit, and his voice is uniquely distinctive. On screen, Busta’s magic is even more vivid. 20 years later, he's still killing it… Imagine that! Join me, this Saturday, August 27, 8pm-1am… Dj set tribute to the King of remixes, the legendary Bussa Buss.
