 65. RE-RELEASE: Can Acupuncture Help Prevent Cancer? with Dr. Amanda Tieu | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:39

Dr. Amanda Tieu states, "Acupuncture has little to no risk and helps with pain, stress, and inflammation." She's seen many success stories, from helping couples with infertility to injured veterans who've tried everything for pain. In the case of Dr. Tieu's Army veteran patient, his Dr. suggested acupuncture as a last-ditch effort to try before getting surgery; spoiler alert, the veteran had so much success with acupuncture and pain management that he skipped the surgery! Dr. Tieu also discussed how acupuncture can inhibit the signals from the brain that are screaming, PAIN! It can block pain signals and turn down inflammation. I've had great success in using acupuncture to manage pain. I broke my leg snow skiing twenty-five years ago and didn't have the resources to get it fixed using surgery (I didn't have good health insurance, owned a business, and couldn't afford to take time off). I used acupuncture for pain management and inflammation. Fast forward to today, and I've trained for and completed five half marathons and surf five days a week. I can tell you that my experience with acupuncture has been nothing but positive!   Dr. Tieu received her Doctorate degree in Naturopathic Medicine, Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and License in Massage Therapy at Bastyr University. She is board certified by the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners (NABNE) and the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).  She has participated in local nonprofit organizations that sought to provide care to underserved patients, focused on acute injuries and post-recovery treatments of athletes at Bastyr’s Sports Medicine Club, and volunteered as a clinical care member at her local hospital. Dr. Tieu believes in providing quality patient care through an integrative medical approach. She is passionate about bringing sustainable changes to a patient’s overall health. Her current areas of interest are primary care, pain management, and dermatology.   More information about the health benefits of accupuncture: Researchers pinpoint how acupuncture targets inflammation – Harvard Gazette The Anti-Inflammatory Actions and Mechanisms of Acupuncture from Acupoint to Target Organs via Neuro-Immune Regulation - PubMed (nih.gov) Effect of Acupuncture on Oxidative Stress and Inflammation: From Mechanisms to Therapeutic Applications (researchgate.net)   Visit whydidigetcancer.com for full show notes. --- The key to becoming a meal prep master?  64. RE-RELEASE: What Does Indiana Jones Know About Preventing Cancer? A Conversation with Archaeologist Dr. Bill Schindler | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:16

Dr. Bill Schindler told me that in 2 decades of research, he’d learned two simple truths: Humans are sicker than ever before, and We must learn from the ancestral past to correct the mistakes of the modern food system. In today's podcast, Dr. S. tells us we should ask ourselves not what we should eat but how; specifically, to look at food in an ancestral way that makes the food we eat as safe and nourishing as it can be for our bodies. Bill has spent his career studying indigenous groups worldwide and now understands that living a full and healthy life means understanding how people prepared their food hundreds of years ago. We had an enlightening discussion about fermented foods, nixtamalizing, organ meats, and farmer's markets. He explained that our digestive tract is very inefficient and "processing our foods," for example, eating sourdough bread can allow our bodies to absorb more nutrients from the food. His website states that our relationship with food does not exist in a vacuum. That is why diets don't work – they are always out of context because they do not consider the other aspects of "life" that are so important to us. How we acquire, process, store, share, and consume food is uniquely human and embedded in practically all aspects of our lives. So learning to eat like humans again is really about learning to live like humans again. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing his book, taking one of his online classes, or following him on social media!  62. Do We Need to Stop Burning Candles? The Truth About EDCs. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:43

What are EDCs and why should you care about them?  Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) are a group of compounds that, despite being unnoticeable, have the potential to disrupt the delicate balance of our endocrine system. These seemingly harmless substances are part of our daily lives, from the products we use to the food we consume. EDCs lurk in unexpected places, impacting hormonal functions and, consequently, our overall well-being. I’ve invited environmental toxins and green living expert Deborah de Moulpied onto the show to give us the 411 on all things EDCs. Stick around to learn where these toxic chemicals are hiding in our daily lives and how we can minimize our exposure.   Visit whydidigetcancer.com for full show notes.     The key to becoming a meal prep master?  36: Can Positive Emotions Kill Cancer Cells? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 39:16

36: Can Positive Emotions Kill Cancer Cells?   Join me for part two of my interview with the New York Times best-selling author of Radical Remission and Radical Hope, Dr. Kelly Turner. Did you know that positive emotions can impact your pituitary and pineal glands and flood your bloodstream with oxytocin, relaxin, serotonin, and endorphins? Translation: These hormones have been shown in studies to reduce the spread of and the growth speed of cancer cells. Dr. Turner also shared that researchers dripped oxytocin into Petri dishes holding breast cancer cells; the oxytocin diminished the breast cancer cells. Listen to today's podcast episode to discover the ten healing factors all her study subjects had in common. These ten key healing factors for Radical Remission are, in no particular order: Radically changing your diet Taking control of your health Following your intuition Using herbs and supplements Releasing suppressed emotions Increasing positive emotions Embracing social support Deepening your spiritual connection Having strong reasons for living Exercise In Radical Remission, Dr. Turner states that these factors are in no particular ranking order — in her research, there was no “clear winner” among the factors. While some people focused more on one factor than others, the majority of the survivors she interviewed did practice all nine of these key factors. These key factors are now considered “hypotheses” — that is, more research is needed to “prove” that these factors improve the chances of healing from cancer or other conditions. Dr. Turner points out: “I don’t give medical advice nor do I even give advice. I’m just here to report on my research, and I can certainly say what radical remission survivors would do from a research standpoint.” Dr. Turner shows how survivors overcame dire circumstances and diagnoses using modalities beyond the conventional treatments of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and other “standard” cancer treatments. Interestingly, seven of these ten key factors that Radical Remission survivors reported using are psychosocial (mental/emotional) factors, while the other three are nutritionally and movement-related. While getting her Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkley, Dr. Turner, a researcher, lecturer, and counselor in integrative oncology, was shocked to discover that no one was studying episodes of radical (or unexpected) remission—when people recover against all odds without the help of conventional medicine, or after conventional medicine has failed. She was so fascinated by this kind of remission that she embarked on a ten-month trip around the world, traveling to ten different countries to interview fifty holistic healers and twenty radical remission cancer survivors about their healing practices and techniques. Her research continued by interviewing over 100 Radical Remission survivors and studying over 1000 of these cases. Her evidence presents nine common themes that she believes may help even terminal patients turn their lives around.  35: Can Listening to Your Intuition Cause a Radical Remission? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:04

35: Can Listening to Your Intuition Cause a Radical Remission?   A candid conversation with Dr. Kelly Turner, author of "Radical Remission and Radical Hope."   Today I welcome Kelly A Turner, Ph.D. and New York Times best-selling author of Radical Remission and Radical Hope. Kelly and I talk about the difference between radical remission and spontaneous healing and the ten key healing factors that cancer survivors have in common. Sure, we can assume that changing diet and lowering stress levels can impact healing but what about factors such as listening to your intuition? For Dr. Turner, intuition was the hardest healing factor for her to understand so she dove into research to see if this could be a legitimate healing factor, spoiler alert, she found numerous studies citing intuition as a healing factor. According to Dr. Turner, almost all the Radical Remission survivors that she interviewed mentioned doing these same ten things to heal their cancer. 21. Clean Beauty – A Conversation with Gabriel of Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 39:53

21. Clean Beauty – A Conversation with Gabriel of Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc.   I was shocked when Gabriel told me that we each have 5-7 pounds of skin and that our skin is our biggest organ. The skin works as a filter, so what goes on our skin goes into our bodies. Yikes! It made me think about what types of products I use on my skin, hair, and nails.   Ironically, I just returned from my annual National Association of Nutritional Professionals conference. One of the speakers mentioned that within 4 minutes of using nail polish, the chemicals from the polish hit our bloodstream.    When you hear two messages within days that sound the same, I know it's a sign!   One of my big takeaways from my conversation with Gabriel is how we can make our own or DIY natural products. For example, he likes to use Jojoba oil as a moisturizer, and he cooks with essential oils.    Listen to the podcast episode to learn more of his DIY secrets!   Gabriel is also offering a coupon to podcast listeners: Enos25 for 25% off!   Gabriel De Santino is the founder and CEO of Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc., a global natural beauty empire whose brands include Gabriel, Zuzu Luxe, and Clean Kids Naturally.   Born of Latin descent and raised off the coast of Mexico, Gabriel, at an early age, was naturally drawn to the coastal life and heavily influenced by his grandmother's holistic practices. At the age of 18, Gabriel moved to Seattle, Washington. He knew the Pacific Northwest had a rising fashion and beauty scene and joined the movement at a local beauty counter. It was there that Gabriel fell in love with makeup but was also inspired to look past the made-up face. He soon secured a position at a salon & spa to learn more about the industry and how he may change it. After attending aesthetician school, he quickly discovered he wanted to first correct the skin before covering it up, a mantra he still practices today. As an aesthetician, he struggled because women were using toxic products on their skin. But, given his background as a naturopath and familiarity with sea botanicals, his calling was loud and clear.   In 1992, he solicited his friends and family's moral and financial support. As a result, he started Gabriel Organics, a complete line of all-natural, vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free skincare products made with seaweed as its hero ingredient.   Gabriel Cosmetic Inc.'s prestige and diverse brand portfolio were created out of one man's vision of clearly defining natural beauty and being able to provide affordable and accessible vegan beauty products to consumers worldwide.   Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc. is headquartered in its original area of Redmond, Washington, with over 25 employees and its fearless leader, Gabriel De Santino, leading the charge every step of the way.     This episode is sponsored by Wave Block.  20. Meditation is Medication - Part Two of My Conversation with Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:54

20. Meditation is Medication - Part Two of My Conversation with Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy   My podcast guest this week is part two of my conversation with Dr. C, and she says that Meditation is the Medication.   We need to get a better handle on our stress. Stress is a normal part of our day. She is concerned about the long-term chronic stress that will raise our levels of inflammation. When inflammation is high for long periods, our body gets very challenged, and that's how diseases like cancer can occur.   She told me how years ago, she went to La Jolla to meditate with Deepak Chopra and walked away thinking, well, nobody will want to do that! Fast forward twenty years, and she tells me the science is clear, Meditation can help you lower your stress levels, lower your levels of inflammation, and help you sleep more soundly. In addition, these benefits will support your immune system so it can do its job-killing invaders such as cancer cells.   I know I need to manage my stress better. I'm a hyper person. I was always in trouble for talking too much in school. I was even prescribed Ritalin for a time. I also have a hard time sitting still, but I also want to be a more peaceful person, ahhh! I make Meditation more stressful than it should be. Meditation is just one more item that I don't accomplish on my daily to-do list. Instead of stressing out about how I'm not meditating, I will make it work for me. I'm going to start small: Move my body a bit, go for a short walk or stretch a bit. Get outside. Focus on breathing. I will observe my surroundings and be grateful. What I do to manage my stress might not be a traditional type of meditation but it’s a start!   Dr. Connealy's social info: ConnealyMD.com Dr. Connealy on Instagram (@ConnealyMD)   Enjoy a 10% discount with one of my favorite supplement companies, Seeking Health.  19. Stress & Cancer - a Candid Conversation with Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:49

19. Stress & Cancer - a Candid Conversation with Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy   Dr. Connealy is leading a cancer prevention revolution that focuses on treating the patient with the disease and not the disease of the patient while determining the origin of the illness. She is the author of The Cancer Revolution, which has revolutionized the landscape of cancer treatment.   We had a riveting discussion about the fact that the death rate from cancer hasn't changed in the last 50 years. I find that statement shocking. Millions of dollars are invested yearly in cancer research; how could it be possible that the death rate from cancer hasn't changed?   In her book, Dr. C. sites a Japanese study that found that we have more than 75 million cancer cells in our body at any given time, and usually, our immune system keeps these cells in check. But when the immune system becomes compromised over a long period, these cells can begin to multiply.   Give today's podcast episode a listen to hear her fascinating answer!   Other topics we covered: Stress Only 5% or less of our cancer risk appears to be due to genetics. Can exercise help prevent cancer? The link between EMFs and disease The role toxins play in cancer and other diseases Cancer is now the leading cause of death in children Nanoplastics  According to Dr. Connealy, we are ingesting about a credit card size each day of plastic. Unfortunately, eating plastic isn't doing our health any favors. The latest research shows that these nano plastic/particles, due to their small size and molecular properties, can penetrate the cells and cause harmful effects.    With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Connealy has become a prominent leader in the field of Functional Medicine. She utilizes the best of all sciences, including conventional, homeopathic, eastern medicine, and modern medicine. She is the founder and medical director of the Cancer Center for Healing and Center for New Medicine. The combined 30,000 S.F. clinics have become the largest integrative medical clinic in North America and have been visited by over 70,000 patients.    Dr. Connealy's social info: ConnealyMD.com Dr. Connealy on Instagram (@ConnealyMD)   Enjoy a 10% discount with one of my favorite supplement companies, Seeking Health.  18. Protect Your Peace to Prevent Disease (with Dr. Gregg Jantz) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:21

18. Protect Your Peace to Prevent Disease (with Dr. Gregg Jantz)   Mental health, stress, and anxiety: we've all experienced these feelings.   I work to protect my peace.   What does that mean?   I'm careful about who is in my life, and I'm cautious about what I listen to because that goes directly to my mind.   Listen to today's podcast with Dr. Gregg Jantz to learn his easy tips to help you protect your peace. He was very clear with me that there are things we can do daily to have more peace and, thus, better health. Here are some of my favorite tips that I do daily to create more peace in my life (all of my tips received a big thumbs up from Dr. J!). I've worked hard to surround myself with encouraging and kind people. I've also canceled our television cable, which allows me to choose how and when I hear the news.   I had to recognize what I could control to guard my peace.   What I can control today: What I'm hearing. What I'm eating and drinking. How did I respond to negative situations or people? My attitude. That. Is. It.   Once I realized that I could control these things and only these things (newsflash, I had to learn I couldn't control people), my stress levels started to change, and I found my joy returning.   Here's the daily ritual I do to protect my peace: I start my day with a glass of water while I look out my window and not at my PHONE. I make a cup of coffee and walk outside, rain or shine, and look toward the sun, not at the sun as that can damage your eyes. I return inside and read my Bible and write in my gratitude journal.
