Summary:
The Clear Evidence

I asked a few people about the cost of hiring a wheelchair with an official helper in Masjid Al-Haram, Makkah, for Tawaf and Sa’ee. Here are the responses I received:

Abdul Jaleel: “I used without helper and it was SAR 50. With helper may be around SAR 100 i guess”

Usman Arshad: “Last month I paid SAR 200 for both Tawaf and Sa’ee”

Muhammad Affan Butt: “Rate is not fixed, range is from SAR 150 to SAR 200 on average, based on crowd and season”

Sajjad Riaz: “Last time i paid SAR 150”

Abu Bakr Farooq: “I have used it for Sa’ee for my kids, cost around SAR 70”

Sabih ur Rehman: “On the 3rd floor of Haram, if you go from near Safa in Sa’ee area, you will find a small office for electric wheelchairs, from there you can get an electric wheelchair for SAR 50 for either Tawaf or Sa’ee and if you would like to take for both Tawaf and Sa’ee then it will cost SAR 100”

Muhammad Nasir Khan: “We found unofficial helpers with wheelchairs just outside our hotel, they provided complete umrah service from hotel to hotel for SAR 100 per wheelchair”

An internet search revealed the following:

Marwan Asmar: “I hired a wheelchair and a uniformed attendant, provided at a cost of 200 Saudi riyals that goes towards the upkeep of the Haram.”

Omar: “In Masjid Alharam there are two kinds of wheelchairs:

1) Regular wheelchairs (no driver): there are more than 10,000 wheelchairs dedicated to elderly people free of charge, and all you need to do is to register your information at wheelchairs office and they will hand it to you under one condition that you return it to the same place. There are two offices just outside Haram, one on the east side and the other on the west side. You can ask any staff there to guide you to its location, ask for a free wheelchair or in Arabic “Araba Majanan”. Note: most hotels nearby Haram provide their guests with a wheelchair (free of charge), maybe you need to communicate with your hotel to check their availability beforehand.

If you wish to hire a driver (Mutawwif) which I think you don’t need, there is a charge around 150 SAR per person.

2) Self Service Electric Wheelchair: Haram recently introduce new self-driving electric wheelchairs. There are two types of EW: single EW costs 100 SAR and Double EW costs 200 SAR. Hire office is located in the second floor and again you can ask the staff about these Electric wheelchairs or in Arabic “Araba kahraba”.”

Continue Reading: Cost of Hiring a Wheelchair in Masjid Al-Haram, Makkah (English)
