US weed control group GROW joins forces with WeedSmart and our pre-harvest guide

WeedSmart Podcast show

Summary: On this edition of the WeedSmart podcast, we’re talking all things pre-harvest. Our South Australian-based Southern Extension Agronomist, Chris Davey joins us to give us the rundown on what growers need to be thinking about before harvest kicks off. We also catch up with GROW advocate, Virginia Tech Associate Professor and Extension Weed Science Specialist, Michael Flessner about the new partnership between WeedSmart and GROW. GROW stands for Getting Rid of Weeds and is a publicly led network coordinating research and outreach, providing science-based information and decision support tools to make agriculture more sustainable and precise. On the podcast, we also mentioned we've got some great new content. Here are the details: We’ve got a new blog post looking at livestock containment areas. Sam and Emily Eagle share their experience with how this has been a valuable long-term livestock production and weed control tool. Check it out here: https://weedsmart.org.au/more-lambs-less-weeds-in-sheep-containment-systems/ We also have two new Case Studies. The first is on Andrew and Gina Kenny who farm at Badgingarra, in WA’s west midlands. They’re using an integrated program of crop rotation, mouldboard ploughing, grazing and chaff lining to keep their weed numbers very low. Check it out here: https://weedsmart.org.au/case-studies/andrew-kenny-badgingarra-wa/ The second is on Mat Freeman who farms an aggregation of cropping properties at Mullewa and Walkaway in the Geraldton Port Zone of WA.
