I am Priscilla Rice, and I am coming to you from Live Oak Recording Studio in Berkeley, California. I am joined on the phone today by the Founder and the Chief Visionary Officer of BNI, Dr. Ivan Misner. Hello, Ivan. How are you and where are you?
Ivan:

Hey, Priscilla. I am in Mexico this week. You ask that every week and I am sure people wonder why. I like to remind people from time to time. Years ago, I had people saying, “Oh, I van is on the beach, just hanging out, not doing anything these days.” I just want people to know that I am out visiting regions a lot, or out on business.
This week, I am in Mexico for a Transformational Leadership Council meeting. I am a member of TLC, which is an organization started by Jack Canfield. It is a lot of fun. Very interesting. I get some great content that I end up using in BNI. The whole phrase, “changing the way the world does business” came from TLC, from a brainstorming session I did at TLC.
Priscilla:

That is great. You may end up on the beach. But you just wouldn’t tell us, right?
Ivan:

This one is not going to be on the- we are nowhere near the ocean on this one.
Priscilla:

Okay. Well, tell me what this topic is about- specific is terrific.
Ivan:

Specific is terrific. This is so important. If you are a BNI member, this is so important because if you are engaged in referral marketing, it’s very important to teach others how to refer you. So we are going to do an exercise. We are going to do something that I don’t think we have ever done before. Priscilla, I am going to do a live exercie. We are going to have dead air on a podcast for 15 seconds at a time.
Priscilla:

Okay.
Ivan:

Alright? Are you ready for that?
Priscilla:

I am.
Ivan:

If you are listening to this podcast, I want you to do this live if possible. If you are in a car, don’t do it, but if you are not, take out a piece of paper. I want you to be prepared to write some things down in these two very brief exercises, okay? Do you have a piece of paper, Priscilla?
Priscilla:

Yep, I do.
Ivan:

Alright. For the next 15 seconds, think of as many silly things that people have done in the world as you can.
[15 seconds] Okay, stop. How many did you get?
Priscilla:

I only got two, Ivan.
Ivan:

Okay. That’s fine. Alright.
