Summary: In 1991, Sandra Dean was appointed Principal of South Simcoe Elementary School, a rundown public school in Oshawa, known more for student petty crimes than academic achievement. Dean set about improving the building and the grounds, getting the community involved and initiating a culture of respect for staff and students. Within five years, Dean had turned the school into one of the best in Durham District School Board. Her book is called "Hearts and Minds". (Originally aired September 2000)
