Summary: <p>Director Cary Fukunaga was born half-Japanese, half-Swedish. His works travel wide cultural distances, as well. He's told an immigrant story (<em>Sin Nombre), </em>created authentic British period drama (<em>Jane Eyre),</em> and explored gothic noir (<em>True Detective). </em>His latest film, <em>Beasts of No Nation</em>, travels to<em> </em>an African country of no name. And while he's got a great eye for the specifics of his locations, Fukunaga also studies the emotional landscapes of complicated characters.
