The Survival Podcast show

Summary: TweetSwales Full of Ice After 6 Full Days, Click for a Full Sized Image Despite the dire warnings about global warming from many the current belief now seems to be a century of cooling may be on the way.  In fact while we were told there would be no ice sheets in the arctic by 2013 the latest reports on the artic ice sheet is that there is.. “An unbroken ice sheet more than half the size of Europe already stretches from the Canadian islands to Russia’s northern shores” Source Link Which is interesting because the northern climate is only just now heading into the depths of its winter.  As for the antarctic ice sheet it is in fine form and growing everywhere save for one spot.  However in that one spot it turns out that there are active volcanoes under it.  Yea really you just can’t make this stuff up. Today’s show isn’t about debunking global warming though or even climate change.  In fact I am going to start today with a little side note on the real damage I feel is being done to our climate by man. What I actually want to talk about today is simply dealing with the cold, because this winter folks, is going to be one of the coldest you have seen in a long time.  I think most people in northern climates will experience a very cold winter but they will do okay.  If you are used to lows in the teens and end up with lows in the single digits you aren’t happy about it, but you are prepared. If however you live where frosts are generally mild and you typically only dip into the 20s a few times a year, this winter could be a game changer.  Spoiled southern gardeners may find themselves planting a month to 6 weeks later this spring, or perhaps needing to create cloches and low tunnels like their norther brethren have been doing all along. Dallas – Forth Worth where I live was just shut down for 4 full days due to a few inches of ice.  While many in the north mock this, it is mocked due to extreme ignorance.  Brother give me a foot of snow over an inch of ice any day.  Road crews in the metroplex finally had to break out scrapers and graders to remove ice, this equipment wasn’t designed for such a job, but it worked.  However it took them so long to figure it out, that most of the ice had melted before they got started, in fact in many ways in some areas they made the problem worse! Two nights ago I watched a car get stuck on cobble stone ice on I-20 while sipping a hot chocolate on my couch.  By the time recovery vehicles got to him, his car had quite literally FROZEN TO THE ROAD. All of this has made me reevaluate my cold weather planning and may be you should too.  Despite what we are told by a main stream media that has a political agenda it is quite likely that this type of winter may become the norm in coming years.  I mean I could cite more science on this but let me just say, I believe if something has happened before it could happen again.  Unlike a lot of younger folks out there I remember the winters of the late 70s and early 80s.  Hell I remember snow in mid March in Jacksonville Florida, if I had to put a year on it I would bet it was 1980. Join me today as I take a hard look at what I now consider to be a big hole in my own preps, dealing with cold weather.  We are not unprepared, but we are Dallas Texas prepared and it seems like it might be a better idea to get say Tennessee prepared, and you guys in Tennessee, you may want to check out what the guys up in Chicago and Boston do, yea I am serious.  Better to be over prepared then under prepared.  After this recent ice storm I feel quite under-prepared. Join Me Today as I Discuss… Yes I think we have screwed up earth, here is how, now lets move on Some of the many reasons ice is worse than snow Why we almost always get ice, sleet or very heavy wet snow in the south The reality of government being unprepared and what it means for other things Vehicle mobility, why staying home isn’t always an option Tire [...]
