Summary: Why do dogs bark? And can we humans understand what dogs are trying to communicate? That's the focus of some recent research by Dr. Adam Miklosi, and ethologist from Budapest, Hungary. He delivered a talk in New Orleans at the joint conference of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior and the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. Right after his presentation, he sat down with me to go over some of his research findings, and to discuss what this might mean about the evolution of canine vocalization, and the implications for how we communicate with our animals.
