Summary: If your child has been diagnosed with a food allergy, what do you need to do to prepare them for school? It can be very scary to find out that your child has food allergies, especially with instances of kids perishing from just that. So, if your child has been diagnosed with a food allergy, what do you need to do to prepare them for school? What kind of information do you need to share with the school,  and what questions should you ask about the school's and teacher's ability to handle any problems? Should your child learn to be responsible for their own allergy? Also, what about the other parents whose child is not allergic, but who may be sending in treats, or packing PB&J in their own child's lunch? It's OK to be nervous about all of the issues and concerns that surround food allergies, because it means you are being cautious. Dr. Jennifer Kim, MD, and Melanie Cole, MS, help guide you through what types of policies should you ask regarding food-sharing, appropriate snacks, and where the responsibility lies.
