Summary: SUPREME COURT DECISIONS. The Supreme Court today struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, declaring that same-sex couples can receive federal benefits awarded to other married couples. At the same time, the justices blocked Prop 8, which prohibited same-sex marriage in California. The top court of the land also recently struck down a voter I.D. law in Arizona that would have affected Latino voters, but it also annulled a section of the Voting Rights Act, which could leave many Latino and African American voters unprotected.
