Summary: The story of David and Absalom is one of the saddest in Scripture. A father is estranged from his son and does not realize what he has lost until his son dies and David cries in despair, ““O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you—O Absalom, my son, my son” (2 Samuel 18:33). Rather than living with regret, we are called to repent of our sins and start anew.
