Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment: 'Live' - The PodCast (People Pleasing Music Company Ltd in association with Authentic Promotions Agency and Derek Chiswick Management presents)

Summary: The Morning Breakfast Sessions-A brand new, twice weekly, morning music and entertainment show, presented by your musical host and entertainer, Mike Sidaway. On Monday and Thursday mornings from 9am until 9.30am, Mike Sidaway presents an entertaining, musical set, as he sits at the piano at home in his living room and sings and plays a selection of songs from across the genres, old and new. He's brand new to this-he's only done gigs before in venues. He does not present shows (clearly).Things go wrong.A lot goes wrong:there are sound problems to deal with, technical challenges to overcome. And it's all broadcast live through his Facebook page. There is the 3-min pre-show chat with his manager and agent, Derek Chiswick (a running, dramatic, at times tearful, soap-opera), the news and sport with Bob Chambers (who keeps telling us he used present BBC Look North in the 80s, of which no historical evidence can be found),a new, special weekly-feature entitled 'The Virus And Me', where 'journalist' Adriunn Pyeulls will talk to a variety of famous figures from the world of Music/Entertainment/the Arts about the impact that COVID-19 is having directly in their life.Plus plenty of shout-outs to viewers watching 'Live', a chance to get involved and text/message/call, and musical/song requests. In each show, there will be four or five great songs, from a selection of pop/rock/jazz artists and bands from across the ages, all renditions by Mike at the piano (ah, now that's the bit that he's actually fairly good at). On occasion, we are lucky enough to be graced with an appearance from agent, manager and legendary artist Derek Chiswick, performing crowd-pleasing, show-stopping numbers from the world of WestEnd Musical Theatre.Fun and silliness ensue throughout (Oh yes, we adore the silliness, Mike-you are so, very silly). From time to time, Martin Piper, Head of FaceAche (as Martin likes to call it-'I just hope that 'the Zuck' doesn't find out, or he would have my head on a plate') 'Live' Operations from the UK's Headquarters in Scunthorpe, drops in for a quality-control check to see if all is in order and above board, (after all Mike&Martin got off to a pretty rocky start after Mike's use of an expletive term in his very first broadcast on Facebook-the word 'shitting'-got him into hot water. They since have made up-largely because Martin has heard a lot worse language in his own home from his own kids. All 'Live' and uninterrupted on Facebook thru Mike's Facebook page:Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment. And when all the jolliness is over, Mike edits it down, taking out the garbage (of which there is a lot) keeping the best bits (of which there are none), and brings to you the complete, glorious, shiny, sparkly, slickly-produced, incredible, amazing, perfect, future award-winning, finished article in the form of this PodCast.A work in progress (slightly better each show), it's an interesting, experimental show, so come along and enjoy the rollercoaster ride (ha bloody ha).All wholesome, good-hearted humour (oh Mike, you're so very funny, you kill me.No, literally-you kill me.Nice to have on in the background whilst you are enjoying your breakfast.Beamed 'Live' from Mike's Living Room straight to you.Wherever you are. You're at home.I hope you can tune in and join me on Monday and Thursday mornings at 9am.And don't forget Sunday Morning Love Songs-essential listening for sentimental, weak-minded, soppy souls who like to cry at music/films on a regular basis.I look forward to welcoming you.Thanks,Mike.

20. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production The Afternoon Acoustic Sessions: Thursday 28th May 2020 Hope you enjoy the selection of acoustic songs for this podcast.  I say 'acoustic' - the old habits are creeping back in! That is - the temptation to just fall back on, rely on, and use a backing track instead of just playing piano.  Two of the songs during the 'live' session at the time were performed with acoustic piano - Jealous Guy and Miss Sarajevo.  But when it came to putting the podcast together, I decided to record versions of both of those songs with backing tracks.  As well as wanting to improve the vocals, I wanted to make the song sound fuller, and also attempt to do the song justice.  And - it just feels nicer putting a better quality version of the song out there on the podcast, which I feel is more permanent and lasting than the fleeting, in the moment, 'live' Facebook video... Thanks again for listening.  Eight songs - three purely acoustic, and five with the use of tracks.  I hope you enjoy these...   Songs Today Everybody's Talking', Harry Nilsson (Track) She's The One, Robbie Williams (Acoustic) Jealous Guy, John Lennon (Track) (Recorded) Vincent, Don McLean (Track) She, Charles Aznavour, Elvis Costello (Acoustic) One More Try, George Michael (Acoustic) ('Live' Piano, Mix of 'Live' and Recorded Vocals) Harvest Moon, Neil Young (Track) Miss Sarajevo, U2 (George Michael version) (Track) (Recorded)   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg.  19. Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment: The Morning Breakfast Sessions (Tuesday 26th May 2020) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:16

19. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production The Morning Breakfast Sessions: Tuesday 26th May 2020 Derek is off down to the beach with Mrs Chiswick.  He is looking forward to 'slapping some oil on her'. Since slapping is now 'frowned upon' (as Derek puts it), (that would be unlawful I think Derek), heading down to the beach is seemingly Derek's only chance, these days, to administer some 'light and gentle pain' to his beloved wife.  You just would not have thought it...some people can really surprise you. Ideally, Derek would love to get the 'mini barbecue' out (tin foil tray) and start sizzling some sausages down on the sand.  But unfortunately, that is not allowed until 6pm.  And Derek and Mrs Chiswick cannot spend a whole day on the beach in the hot sun, just for a 6pm sausage - their sensitive 67-year old skin will be singed to a cinder... So, Derek is off to avoid the rush, and therefore Mike will have to do the show all 'on his tod'.  And that means without the support of Derek in the wings, and his face regularly peeping out from behind the thick, red, velvet, triple-lined stage curtains, and the countless, encouraging thumbs up that he happily sends Mike's way.  It's a great presence to have.  And clearly Derek enjoys the songs - especially the older ones from he 1960s.  Mike usually has to perform his set whilst contending with the thudding of the floorboards that are transmitted from the dancing of Derek.  It's a very solid 4/4 beat thankfully, which is fairly accurately in time with the music most of the time.  Unless Derek has had his lunchtime whiskey, of course... PodCast♯19 - a podcast that seemed to take an age to put together.  Riptide and There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back went alright.  But Mike is clearly getting more fussy with the material he's putting out there. So, those two songs were recorded and inserted.  As well as several overdubs for Don't Stop... Hope you enjoy this selection of songs. Songs Today You And The Night And The Music, Frank Sinatra Suspicious Minds, Elvis Presley Shakin' All Over, Johnny Kidd & The Pirates Honky Tonk Women, The Rolling Stones Take It Easy, Eagles The Hardest Part, Coldplay Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Queen (Michael Bublé version) Don't Stop, Fleetwood Mac Riptide, Vance Joy (Recorded) Dance The Night Away, The Mavericks There's Nothing Holding' Me Back, Shawn Mendes (Recorded) *(All songs are performed 'Live' unless stated)   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg. 18. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production Sunday Love Songs: Sunday 24th May 2020 Always do a sound-check!  After doing some recording of songs in the couple of days leading up to this 'live' performance - which involved changing some cables around - I changed the cables back fairly quickly, and went into this 'live' set without doing a sound-check.  I mistakenly plugged one cable back into the wrong input, which meant the session was recorded at a much lower volume!  Anyway, like you really care?!  It all made for quite an unenjoyable experience whilst performing, and, subsequently, lots of extra time tweaking during the process of editing this podcast, and also let to recording a couple of songs again, which had not turned out great at the time. Anyway - another lesson learned.  Do a sound check!  It will save you time in the long run... Hope you enjoy some of these songs.  Thank you!     Songs Today For Once In My Life, Frank Sinatra Stuck On You, Lionel Richie Something About The Way You Look Tonight, Elton John Let There Be Love, Nat King Cole (Michael Bublé arrangement) Play Me, Neil Diamond The Lady In Red, Chris De Burgh A Groovy Kind Of Love, Phil Collins Mandy, Barry Manilow (Recorded) The Twelfth Of Never, Johnny Mathis (Recorded) That's All, Nat King Cole (Recorded) A Thousand Years, Christina Perri (Twilight Saga) (Recorded) *(All songs are performed 'Live' unless stated)   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg. Hope you enjoy some of these in this very first one. Five are purely voice with acoustic piano, and three of the songs I've used a track on top of the 'live' piano. Was a nice, laid back session.  A different feel to it today.  Perhaps a little more authentic, musically speaking, with more acoustic piano numbers and less use of the tracks. Quite enjoyable, and looking forward to doing more of these each week. Thanks again for listening...   Songs Today I Got You, Jack Johnson (Track) All Of Me, John Legend (Acoustic) Blue Eyes, Elton John (Acoustic) Carolina In My Mind, James Taylor (Track) If It's Magic, Stevie Wonder (Acoustic) I Can't Make You Love Me, George Michael (Track) You've Got A Friend, James Taylor (Acoustic) Love Is A Losing Game, Amy Winehouse (Acoustic)   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg.  16. Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment: The Evening Sunset Sessions (Tuesday 19th May 2020) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:40

16. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production The Evening Sunset Sessions: Tuesday 19th May 2020 And winner of the most dubious performance of the session goes to: Yes, you guessed it - the recorded song that has been spliced into this podcast because the original 'live' one was, frankly, offensive! Dancing With A Stranger, Sam Smith & Normani It's quite useful (and strangely pleasing and satisfying) to do a pretty bad version of a song during one of these!  During the 'live' performance of the song, I can tell if it's going badly, and resign/prepare myself for having to re-do it.  It (a song going badly during these 'live' sessions) actually provides me with a pretty good excuse to make a recording, which I enjoy.  As I've said before, these fleeting 'live' performances are fine.  But, I do like more the considered and focused recording where you can pay attention to the delivery of every phrase of a song and try to make it the best you can (to a point). The songs that tend to go not so well during these 'live' Facebook sessions, are usually the newer songs - the ones that I have not performed so much at venues.  And since my policy is 0% practice, then I guess it goes without saying that they are not always going to go smoothly...but, that's ok. Your voice - your vocal chords (I suppose the muscles) - kind of have to learn how to sing each particular song.  And I guess each time you perform it, you, your memory and your muscle memory sort of have to take over to make it happen.  Each song, each genre, with different registers/ranges, different styles and timbres and vocal deliveries...it's kind of interesting. Hope you enjoy some of these.  Thanks again for listening...   Songs Today I've Got The World On A String, Frank Sinatra Blue Suede Shoes, Elvis Presley Upside Down, Jack Johnson She's Always A Woman, Billy Joel Sweet Home Alabama, Lynyrd Skynyrd Singing The Blues, Guy Mitchell Dancing With A Stranger, Sam Smith & Normani (Recorded) Come Dance With Me, Michael Bublé Faith, George Michael Viva La Vida, Coldplay Get Lucky, Daft Punk Ft. Pharrell Williams  *(All songs are performed 'Live' unless stated)   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg.  15. Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment: Sunday Love Songs (Sunday 17th May 2020) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:22

15. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production Sunday Love Songs: Sunday 17th May 2020 I hope you enjoy these...More love songs.  But I guess you can never have too much love in your life can you?  And you can never have too many love songs, for that matter, on a Sunday morning!  There are eleven here.  That's probably enough 'love' to keep you going... I hope you have much love in your life..and that you are surrounded with love. Because, after all -  Love makes the world go round...love is the answer.  Love is all around...and love is everything! And that's all I have to say about that... How Can You Mend A Broken Heart did not go too smoothly on the day.  So I made a recording of it and, again, cheekily 'spliced' it into this podcast (I know you don't mind).  This is becoming a habit..but a good habit.  A recorded version as opposed to a 'live' rendition is 100% better...I can imagine the day, when I have enough recordings, to just turn up and present a kind of 'radio show' - where I don't actually have to perform anything 'live'!  But then, what's the fun in that? Ok...here we go.  Hope you like some of these... Songs Today All The Way, Frank Sinatra L-O-V-E, Nat King Cole Always On My Mind, Elvis Presley Hello, Lionel Richie You're My Best Friend, Don Williams And I Love You So, Elvis Presley You're Beautiful, James Blunt How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, Michael Bublé (Recorded) Hero, Enrique Iglesias Everything I Own, Bread I Won't Give Up, Jason Mraz   *(All songs are performed 'Live' unless stated)   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg.  14. Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment: The Evening Sunset Sessions (Wednesday 13th May 2020) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:09

14. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production The Evening Sunset Sessions: Wednesday 13th May 2020 Three recordings tonight.  I suppose the lesson is - don't perform a song unless you know it pretty well. During this session, that really applied to one song in particular (Billie Eilish). Everything I Wanted went kind of ok at the time, but there was a good chunk (20%) at the end which I didn't really know too well.  So, I made a recording and have (cheekily) slotted into this podcast!  Hey - you guys get the good version in this podcast so don't complain! Human, Rag'n'Bone man, went pretty well..but there was one really high note in the bridge, which I squeaked like a hamster (the sound of a hamster squeaking is never pleasant).  I could have just dubbed in the one note..but I wanted to make a nice recorded version. And whilst I was in recording mode, I thought, well let's just do If Tomorrow Never Comes too, as there was some mis-timing of the vocal at the beginning (due to not hearing the beat of the track very well in the headphones). It's nice to make a decent recording of a song.  These 'live' renditions in these podcasts are a nice example of how I sound in a 'live' performance setting.  However, focusing on one single song, and taking a couple of hours to make a nice recording of a song definitely has its merits, and is, in some ways, more satisfying and lasting, I suppose, than a 'live' performance in the moment, that comes and goes.  Once in a while, you can be really in the moment during a 'live' performance, and capture a good recorded version of it. So - the amount of time dedicated to making these podcasts leaves me in kind of a quandary:  I am spending so much time editing these podcasts, that part of me feels that this time could be better spent on focusing on making nice recordings... Anyway, we will carry on with these 'live' performances and podcasts for a little while yet. Thanks again for listening to them, and for coming back.  I hope you are enjoying them. Hopefully I am getting better at the presentation side of things, and it's good practice putting these podcasts together. Thanks again..and see you soon.   Songs Today It's A Beautiful Day, Michael Bublé That's Life, Frank Sinatra (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear, Elvis Presley Hey There Delilah, Plain White T's Islands In The Stream, Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton Daniel, Elton John Everything I Wanted, Billie Eilish (Recorded) Delilah, Tom Jones Human, Rag'n'Bone Man (Recorded) If Tomorrow Never Comes, Garth Brooks (Recorded) Let's Dance, David Bowie (All songs are performed 'Live' unless stated)   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg.  12. Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment: 75th Anniversary VE Day Special Concert (Wartime Songs) (Friday 8th May 2020) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:18:40

12. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production 75th Anniversary VE Day Special Concert (Wartime Songs): Friday 8th May 2020 Mike Sidaway performs a special 'live' concert to mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. All songs from the Wartime period (Second World War) of 1939 to 1945 by Dame Vera Lynn, Gracie Fields and The Andrews Sisters - some more well-known than others.  Twelve 'live' renditions of songs on the day, plus three extra bonus tracks (recorded, not 'live'). At the end of the concert (55:40), I've also included eight extra songs by the original artists (Dame Vera Lynn, Anne Shelton, The Andrews Sisters and Flanagan And Allen).  I had used parts of these songs for 'filler' music over the talking in between my renditions of the songs, so I thought it would be nice to put them all at the end, if anyone is interested in hearing the full versions. I hope you enjoy these songs.  They're not ones that I perform on a regular basis (plus my policy regarding practice is set at a maximum of four percent!), and they are 'live' versions - so the vocal performance is not guaranteed to be the best!  Ok, that's the excuses over with... It was really nice to put on this special concert, and a pleasure to perform these songs.  We had some residents from care homes tuning in to listen on the day (thank you to the activities ladies for organising that). So, I hope you enjoy this podcast, and get some pleasure from listening to it.  And, for the older generation, I hope that listening to this doesn't bring back too many sad memories - I hope it also brings back some happy ones too. Thank you very much for listening.   Songs Today 1. Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree (With Anyone Else But Me), The Andrews Sisters (1939) 2.  10. Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment: Sunday Love Songs (Sunday 3rd May 2020) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:11

10. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production Sunday Love Songs: Sunday 3rd May 2020 Mike is carrying over a hangover into this morning's performance. He is young, and naive and wears his heart on his sleeve. The hangover is not from an all-night, alcohol-fuelled, binge-fest (unfortunately), but rather a combination of factors including a friend's sadness at losing someone close to them, watching a particularly violent film the night before, maybe some home-life stress and just a general low-mood. In short, this temperamental musician is a moody bugger.  He always has been.  He always will be. Whilst Mike is under no illusions that it is not the most professional thing in the world - to bring his mood, and indeed his 'personal baggage' to the table every time he performs - privately, he does not 'give much of a toss.'  Okay, perhaps that is a little blunt.  Let's rephrase that to be more subtle and nuanced:  This particular performer is in a tussle, wrestling to find that happy place centred between, on the one hand, the people-pleasing fake happiness, and at the opposite end a genuine and honest authenticity to the point that he is displayed and presented as an utterly and unashamedly miserable individual! - which he is not, by the way!  It's an interesting discussion - to be completely 100% yourself out there, warts an' all?  Maybe I should try to conduct a survey amongst presenters like Philip Schofield, etc, who have to invest themselves and show their personality.  I'm sure they would urge extreme caution! Mike does not like to conform to expectations and the like.  "It's nice to be different and show a little emotion out there - as long as it does not adversely affect the overall performance and musical quality, then what's the harm?" One could also argue that feeling something, some underlying emotion (whichever emotion that may be), whilst performing does add a certain extra element and energy to the performance of a song.  Music, be it listening to music or performing music, can transform the mood and feelings of not only the audience, but the performer too.  It can take you outside of yourself.  It can take you on a journey.  That is the power of music.  And what a wonderful and powerful force (of good) it is.  It must be harnessed! I guess it's fashionable, these days, to talk about mental health - it seems to be a big issue, a big talking point, an issue of these days, this generation perhaps - featuring in any number of radio and tv discussions/phone-ins on a weekly basis it seems.  It is a struggle that affects us all at some point in our lives.  Whether that's just the daily stress of our complicated lives, or something deeper.  It's an issue that is relevant today, more than ever. Simplistic, but: if one is feeling a 'bit down' at the beginning of a set, that can soon be forgotten merely minutes into the set, and you, and indeed your audience, can be be transported to another place, outside of yourself, just for a while, perhaps even just for the length of a single three-and-a-half minute song.  Or maybe even just a chorus or two.  Perhaps that is enough.  To get lost in a song, or a piece of music, or a film, or a book.  Just for an hour, or a few minutes, or even just for a fleeting moment or two.  To be taken somewhere else for a while, away from the stresses and problems of our daily lives... In any case, another performance, another Facebook 'live' session under the belt, and another lesson learned with each one: bring emotion to the performance, invest yourself in the performance, but don't over burden your audience with your mood, don't bring too much negative energy to the thing.  Just because you are a little down, you don't necessarily have to let people know.  That's fine to a point.  But you don't have to bring down all those around you!  Invest some emotion, invest some feeling, but try to gage, judge and feel the level to maintain a centred and professional performance.  You can leave all of the 'personal baggage' at home!   Songs Today Fields Of Gold, Sting Help Me Make It Through The Night, Michael Bublé (Kris Kristofferson) Just The Way You Are, Billy Joel Strangers In The Night, Frank Sinatra Can't Help Falling In Love, Elvis Presley Chasing Cars, Snow Patrol Amazed, Lonestar The Way You Look Tonight, Tony Bennett Are You Ready For Love, Elton John You Raise Me Up, Westlife, Josh Groban   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg.  9. Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment: The Evening Sunset Sessions (Wednesday 29th April 2020) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:03

9. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production The Evening Sunset Sessions: Wednesday 29th April 2020   Evening is the new morning... Mike is feeling a little nervous this evening.  It's understandable.  A brand new time slot: evening.  Mike has never performed in the evening before.  So, it really feels like a proper 'gig'. Evening is the time for gigs.  Not mornings.  "Singing should be banned in the morning.  Well - definitely yours Mr Sidaway!"  Derek is, of course, just kidding. Derek's here again this evening, as a continual, reassuring presence, to support his young protege, Mike, and give him some much needed confidence before the curtains open and Mike enters the stage with the very creaky-looking dusty lighting rig with its four alternating, flashing lights (red, blue, green and yellow) illuminating his face and making him squint approximately every 4.7 seconds (he really must get around to having a word with Clive, the stage manager, to ask him to re-position the red one and angle it away from his eye-line). "Quite a mammoth set this evening Mr Sidaway." Derek noted. "Eleven songs?" he continued.  "It's just too much.  You're not ready for that Mr Sidaway.  I know you're eager to please and eager to show everyone what you can do.  But just pace yourself.  You don't wanna break your back.  Take it easy.  And, as they say, leave the audience wanting more..." Derek knew about taking it easy.  You had to.  In Derek's day, payment would invariably consist of sharing a plate of sandwiches and a small quiche between the four band members.  And that was on a good day.  Now, the timing and break situation was where it got interesting.  Musicians, back then, would have to perform for over three hours, and they were lucky if they got even a five-minute break.  So you had to be clever.  You had to think on your feet.  You had to survive.  You would do anything to survive.  Musicians, back then, would have to employ any number of interesting and intriguing techniques and excuses to literally 'drag out' the time in between songs and get some time off in between songs to make up for the break-time that they felt there were entitled to.  So, they would use any number of things - yes, the easy, obvious ones like a different member of the band needing a toilet break...or a cigarette break (you can't play the saxophone with smoke coming out the horn...).  And of course there was the old, 'Dave just needs to nip to the car to get a cable,' etc (he might turn up 15 minutes later, most likely without the cable).  But as well as those familiar excuses, you had the interesting ones, the really quite bizarre ones, the surreal ones, even the extra-terrestrial ones.  It really was quite ingenious the sheer number of brand new excuses and stories that the band would invent, think of, concoct, dream up, just to get 'a little breaver' and extract some 'time off' from the contracted engagement time.  It was almost a kind of competition between band members to see who could come up with the most ridiculous, whilst still bordering-on-the-believable, excuse to exit the stage for a well-earned rest and a couple of fags.  On one memorable occasion, Brian, the Bass player, managed to convince the club steward that an Alien craft had landed in the field behind his house the night before, and that the 'being' had specifically requested him to meet him in the field the following night at exactly 9.22pm for a quick and painless medical procedure that would lead to lifelong immunity from 85% of Asian-pacific diseases.  Even the quite nasty ones...like Yellow Fever...The club steward, apparently, fell for the whole tale, Brian left at just after 9pm (during the middle of a song) to make it to the field for 9.22pm, Dave had to quickly fill-in the missing Bass on his Synth, Brian returned to the club well after 10 (with a wire coat-hanger fashioned on a hat) and the band had a good laugh about the whole thing over a crate of beer later that night... Times have changed.  It's not like that anymore... In some ways, the Community hall was a a throw-back to those days and those old social clubs from the 1970s.  It certainly looks and feels like it.  The dusty, creaky lighting-rig, for one thing, has seen better days and doesn't look like it's felt the pleasing moistness of a damp cloth since 1978.  Or an electrician for that matter.  The whole hall is probably just one big death-trap waiting to happen: waiting to pounce on some unsuspecting, unlucky bugger who just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time... Still, Mike has more pressing issues to worry about.  It's evening.  An evening performance.  Evening-time feels like a proper gig.  It has a certain feeling and atmosphere.  And there are definitely a few people in the audience tonight, waiting in anticipation of some decent entertainment.  A decent 'turn'.  Those old fellas are there again.  'Somebody likes you Mr Sidaway...I like you.  Don't worry.  Go and do your fing.  And - break a leg Mr Sidaway.  Break a leg..."   Songs Today The Lady Is A Tramp, Frank Sinatra Sister Golden Hair, America Happy, Pharrell Williams (There'll Be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs Of Dover, Vera Lynn (request) Yellow, Coldplay Such A Night, Michael Bublé Amazing, George Michael Lay Down Sally, Eric Clapton Rhinestone Cowboy, Glen Campbell September, Earth, Wind And Fire Mack The Knife, Bobby Darin   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg.  8. Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment: Sunday Love Songs (Sunday 26th April 2020) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:33

8. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production Sunday Love Songs: Sunday 26th April 2020   Straight up love songs.  Some to sing along to.  Some to be sick to... Just easy like Sunday morning. "Today seemed like a pretty good session I have to say.  Slow lav songs, but wiv some proper energy.  We enjoyed it today Mr Sidaway.  We enjoyed it.  The missus especially liked Jesus Wiv A Little 'un (Jesus To A Child).  We fought that turned out very nice indeed Mr Sidaway.  Very nice." Mike has had to make the very difficult, but necessary, decision - an executive decision if you like - to trim down the number of weekly performances from three shows to two shows per week.  This is due to the amount of time it takes to put PodCasts together (around five hours), and also the serious strain that that volume of time spent working puts on family life!  To relieve the work-load, Mike can envisage having to delegate PodCasting duties to either Nathan on Sound, or maybe persuading two or three members of the Production team to take an online crash-course in learning how to put PodCasts together - after all, besides their invaluable contribution to the Production of the show, they do seem to be just sitting around knitting squares a lot of the time.  Perhaps a more realistic option, though, would be to bring in an experienced PodCast Editor: maybe someone like Kevin Mason - one of the best in the business.  Kevin's services does not come cheap, but "sometimes you just have to fork out, Mr Sidaway, instead of trying to do everything yourself - otherwise you'll just end up killin' yourself," as Derek puts it. Who knows, maybe Kevin might consider accepting a pay cut for his services during these days.  It seems that we are all having to take a pay cut.  For some, pay is completely cut.  These are difficult times indeed - for the whole world - so Mike, Derek, Nathan and the whole of the Production team (Beryl, Betty, Diedre, Doris, Ethel, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mavis and Phyllis) thank you for your continued support, and hope that these music sessions and PodCasts are giving at least just a little light relief to the more serious moments in life at this period of time we are all living through... "In the future, when we look back at this time, I wonder how we will remember it and summarise it all in a few short sentences?  After all, life is just collection of memories at the end of the day.  And maybe looking back, when talking about our life to our kids and grandkids, it will be just that - a few short sentences to sum up different times in our lives," contemplates Derek. "So," he goes on (and explains in a very patronising manner?), "make the most of this short life, live it to the full, don't care what people fink.  And just do what you want Mr Sidaway.  Do what you want.  And don't worry about anybody else.  They can do what they want.  Or they can bugger off can't they?!  You can do anything Mr Sidaway.  We all can.  Every one of us.  So - just do it.  And be 'appy." "Oh, one more fing:  I can't be wiv you on Sundays, due to helping Mrs Chiswick wiv de Sunday roast.  And helping tidy the pantry out and organisin' the bunker.  But we are listenin' Mr Sidaway, we are listenin'.  So - give it your all.  And, as always - break a leg Mr Sidaway.  Have a good one.  Break a leg..."   Songs Today Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Andy Williams Somethin' Stupid, Frank Sinatra & Nancy Sinatra Easy, The Commodores (Lionel Richie) How Deep Is Your Love, Bee Gees Your Song, Elton John (request) Jesus To A Child, George Michael Perfect, Ed Sheeran Love Changes Everything, Aspect Of Love   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg. PodCast Editor:  Brian   *I hope you enjoyed some of the songs today. Thanks again to everyone for listening on Facebook Live and for downloading and listening to this Podcast.  I hope you enjoyed it, and see you again soon for the next episode...

 7. Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment: The Morning Breakfast Sessions (Friday 24th April 2020) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:05

7. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production The Morning Breakfast Sessions: Friday 24th April 2020   "As well as being a legendary performer from the 1970s, Derek Chiswick has managed to shake-off his old image (whilst keeping his favourite purple velvet jacket from 1974), keep his adoring fans at reach, and re-brand himself as one of the world's leading Music Industry experts..." "Derek. Derek! Are you alright?" asks Mike. "Oh...I was just day-dreaming Mr Sidaway." Well, Derek might not be one of the world's leading Music Industry experts, but has carved out quite a nice, second career in Music Artiste Management and as a booking agent. Amazingly, amidst the Corona Virus pandemic, which has hit the care-home sector particularly severely, Derek has only gone and pulled a blinder - securing Mike his first paid engagement.  A gig!  At a care home no less!  Unbelievable.  In these times, you would have to say so. This care home, it would seem, are getting desperate for some form of activity and some normality in these extraordinary times, and would like a little music performance: requesting a musician as far away as possible.  Down the bottom of the garden, amongst the brambles and 'forny' leaves.  As Mike's agent and manager, Derek was not contractually obliged to provide plasters and bandages.  But Derek is a nice man.  Almost a father figure.  The kind of guy that would drive a hundred miles to bring you a pair of jump leads. Meanwhile, back at the studio, the 'BBC' continuity announcer, Duncan Quickstep, has clearly got out of bed on the wrong side this morning.  Either that, or he is unhappy with doing the midnight shift, announcing programmes that nobody is watching or are just simply not bringing in audiences.  In short, a kind of resentment and bitterness seems to be building in Duncan because he is not getting the 'prime-time' slots that he feels he deserves.  One of the options he is contemplating seems quite drastic.  Duncan must be feeling some kind of desperation and that now is the time to strike: He is seriously thinking about changing his style of delivery and spicing up his announcements to show the upper echelons of the 'BBC' his full range and just what he can do.  But he will have to tread carefully - as it is a very fine balance to judge just right amount of humour whilst maintaining a clear, concise and professional delivery of his announcements.  He must also face up to the hard reality that no-one in the entertainment industry - and the 'BBC' for that matter - is indispensable.  Essentially, Duncan is his own boss, he writes his own scripts, and so if he is to get the 'prime-time' Saturday evening slots that he yearns for, then he will have to think seriously about these very public displays of his tantrums.  He knows deep down that he needs to change his attitude, just get his head down and keep focused.  But one thing's for sure: this morning's moody, sullen performance is certainly not going to do him any favours to get him ahead anytime soon....   Songs Today Stuck On You, Elvis Presley Fly Me To The Moon, Frank Sinatra Cracklin' Rosie, Neil Diamond Human, The Killers Moondance, Van Morrison, Michael Bublé Mrs Robinson, Simon And Garfunkel Can't Stop The Feeling! Justin Timberlake (Trolls)   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg. PodCast Editor:  Brian   *Thank you very much for taking the time to listen.  I hope you are enjoying the music renditions, and I will keep trying to improve the quality of the garbage (talking), and also aim to reduce the volume/quantity.

 6. Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment: The Morning Breakfast Sessions (Tuesday 21st April 2020) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:51

6. Today's Episode People Pleasing Music Company Ltd (incorporating Publishing and Management) in association with Authentic Promotions Agency, Enigma Artistes Internacional, Surreal Events, Angry House Productions and Derek Chiswick Management presents a: Mike Sidaway Music Entertainment Production The Morning Breakfast Sessions: Tuesday 21st April 2020   Derek is back. It always feels good when Derek is back.  Kind of like when Bob is listening.  It's just a reassuring presence that feels good and you can't quite explain why. The contract is signed.  We're on for 15%.  Or, should I say, Derek is on for 15% of Mike's earnings.  What young Mr Sidaway does not realise, however, is that he has signed to Derek Chiswick Management for the rest of his days, and will have to pay said Chiswick a tidy percentage until the day he dies, regardless of whether the young, innocent, green Musician decides to leave DCM for another manager/agent.  And if that wasn't enough to melt your keys, Derek Chiswick Management will be entitled to any profits from any such music-related activity from the Sidaway Estate for the next 300 years.  Just as Mike thought that Derek was going soft in his old age, little did he realise that Derek seems to be cut from the same cloth as that Cowell fella.  Mike should really have read the small print.  But, I suppose it's nothing a few expensive Lawyers can't settle in the future.  I suppose, looking for the positives, there seems to be little chance, these days, of making any money at all at the moment, and for the foreseeable future, from anything remotely music-related.  Anyway, what Mr Sidaway doesn't know should not trouble him... Another, splendid, sunny day on planet Earth.  But has anybody actually tuned in, or bothered to turn up to hear Mike's warbling?  It has been very quiet at the Community Centre of late.  Just some kids round the back near the fire exit, and the occasional face peeping around the squeaky door. Still, as Derek puts it, it's a good step up from playing in your bedroom, gets you out the house, and is good practice. Unbelievably, it would seem, Derek has managed to secure Mike his first paid engagement.  And - get this - at a care home less.  In the present circumstances, it is truly remarkable.  But, the care home and the residents there are itching for some kind of activity and musical entertainment.  Social distancing will have to be respected, and Mike will be positioned at the very bottom of the home's back garden.  What on earth is he going to sing for 90-year-olds?  Roll out the barrel and Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner are Derek's suggestions.  Hmm.  Maybe Mike should consider bringing along Derek.  He would fit in nicely among the 90-year-olds, and I'm sure Mrs Chiswick wouldn't mind if Mike forgot to bring him back home (to Chiswick) after the gig. Mrs Chiswick was very scathing in her critique of the Live Lockdown Concert of BBC1 on Sunday evening. Elton John in particular.  I suppose his living legend status has to cut him at least a little slack.  That, and the fact that he has got toddlers to look after.  It's not easy.  And he was probably a little run down from having to wheel out his Grand Piano onto his patio and do all the cables himself.    Songs Today Circles, Post Malone She's Got A Way, Billy Joel Memories, Maroon 5 Stand By Me, Ben E. King God Only Knows, The Beach Boys, Michael Bublé You've Got A Friend In Me, Toy Story 9, Michael Bublé *(All performed 'Live' from his Living Room with 8% preparation and 0% practice with his special 9am singing voice...)   Thanks to our team -  Sound:  Nathan Production Team:  Beryl, Betty, Deidre, Doris, Ethel, Elsie, Evelyn, Blanche, Fred, Irene, Ken, Mabel, Mavis, Pearl, Phyllis and Reg. PodCast Editor:  Brian   *Thank you for listening and thanks for your patience. We're at the beginning and hopefully it will get a bit better...
