Cost of Hiring a Wheelchair in Masjid Al Haram, Makkah (English) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:02:53

The Clear Evidence I asked a few people about the cost of hiring a wheelchair with an official helper in Masjid Al-Haram, Makkah, for Tawaf and Sa’ee. Here are the responses I received: Abdul Jaleel: “I used without helper and it was SAR 50. With helper may be around SAR 100 i guess” Usman Arshad: “Last month I paid SAR 200 for both Tawaf and Sa’ee” Muhammad Affan Butt: “Rate is not fixed, range is from SAR 150 to SAR 200 on average, based on crowd and season” Sajjad Riaz: “Last time i paid SAR 150” Abu Bakr Farooq: “I have used it for Sa’ee for my kids, cost around SAR 70” Sabih ur Rehman: “On the 3rd floor of Haram, if you go from near Safa in Sa’ee area, you will find a small office for electric wheelchairs, from there you can get an electric wheelchair for SAR 50 for either Tawaf or Sa’ee and if you would like to take for both Tawaf and Sa’ee then it will cost SAR 100” Muhammad Nasir Khan: “We found unofficial helpers with wheelchairs just outside our hotel, they provided complete umrah service from hotel to hotel for SAR 100 per wheelchair” An internet search revealed the following: Marwan Asmar: “I hired a wheelchair and a uniformed attendant, provided at a cost of 200 Saudi riyals that goes towards the upkeep of the Haram.” Omar: “In Masjid Alharam there are two kinds of wheelchairs: 1) Regular wheelchairs (no driver): there are more than 10,000 wheelchairs dedicated to elderly people free of charge, and all you need to do is to register your information at wheelchairs office and they will hand it to you under one condition that you return it to the same place. There are two offices just outside Haram, one on the east side and the other on the west side. You can ask any staff there to guide you to its location, ask for a free wheelchair or in Arabic “Araba Majanan”. Note: most hotels nearby Haram provide their guests with a wheelchair (free of charge), maybe you need to communicate with your hotel to check their availability beforehand. If you wish to hire a driver (Mutawwif) which I think you don’t need, there is a charge around 150 SAR per person. 2) Self Service Electric Wheelchair: Haram recently introduce new self-driving electric wheelchairs. There are two types of EW: single EW costs 100 SAR and Double EW costs 200 SAR. Hire office is located in the second floor and again you can ask the staff about these Electric wheelchairs or in Arabic “Araba kahraba”.” Continue Reading: Cost of Hiring a Wheelchair in Masjid Al-Haram, Makkah (English)

Connecting Voluntary Blood Donors with Recipients – RedDrop.pk (English) | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:01:11

The Clear Evidence This initiative was launched by a friend of my university senior: At RedDrop, we have a simple objective; creating a channel between blood donors and recipients, to ensure that each has their requirements fulfilled in an effective and efficient manner. We register Blood Donors based on their basic information and contact details, which we verify in order to ensure transparency and improve reliability. Blood Recipients follow a similarly simple and easy process. They are required to fill out some necessary forms; once the information they provide has been authenticated, the request forms are propagated through various channels to ensure that they are met with the most number of suitable matches within a certain defined locality or radius. In order to generate maximum possible leads, we propagate these forms using a variety of platforms such as App Notifications, SMS, Facebook and Twitter, along with other locally designed channels. RedDrop was launched in October 2016 by two friends, Imran Mir and Atif Nauman. It was freatured on Footprints: Blood bank of a new order – Newspaper – DAWN.COM and RedDrop can save lives – The Nation.  Muslim Community United During Ramadan: A Sign of Hope in COVID-19 Times – Giorgia Rapella (English) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:03:20

The Clear Evidence – Small but vital acts of kindness prove anyone can make a difference. With restrictions and social distancing measures being implemented across Middle Eastern countries, Non-government organisations and charities alike are finding alternative ways to help the less fortunate. As Ramadan tents have been suspended outside mosques, donors have resorted to online platforms to support the community and fulfill their religious offering (Zakat). Nauman Khan, a Pakistani expat, who has been living in Saudi Arabia for the past 10 years, established The Clear Evidence platform in 2018 with the purpose of raising awareness on Islam practices and fundraising projects. This year alone the website registered a 20% growth in contributions compared to 2019 during Ramadan. “The support has been overwhelmingly positive. Donations have reached an all-time high since many have turned to remote means of offering during lockdown” says Nauman. Other members of his family have also been actively involved within the charity initiatives. For example, his cousin Zeeshan, currently in Islamabad, has been providing food packages to low middle-class families experiencing job losses and income reduction due to the pandemic. Thanks to online donations and help by personal connections, he has been able to provide support for more than 800 households so far. “I could not sleep for days hearing stories of educated people struggling to provide food for their kids. The pandemic has created an unprecedented number of unemployed, who by the nature of their occupation are not eligible to receive Zakat … I knew I had to do something” said Zeeshan, while remembering the past month spent delivering rations in a PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) suit. Being his first time as an active charity worker, he does not hide the difficulties of volunteering during COVID-19 times: “During Ramadan, the food requirements and prices increased…budget raised due to costly products such as dates and sweet drinks. Having to deliver packages while fasting was challenging along with prioritizing everyone’s health and wellbeing. Our efforts, although, have not gone unnoticed; it feels amazing receiving the prayers of those we could help and the ongoing support of strangers.” said Zeeshan. In light of the unexpected achievements, more projects are set to kickstart and continue over the course of months and possibly years, at the occasion of future Ramadan celebrations. “My intention was to create a platform on Islam accessible to everyone, but as a community, we have created so much more. The past weeks have been a mix of emotions; it can be hard getting to personally know the suffering of those in need, but it feels incredible seeing others joining forces for the cause. I feel proud and hopeful for the future” says Nauman. Giorgia Rapella is a Journalism and Public Communication student at the University of Technology (UTS), Sydney.  Request for Donations for School in a Bus for Syrian Refugees - Read Foundation (English) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:03:07

The Clear Evidence None of us wishes for war and conflict, it is something that scars the earth and the people that unfortunately get caught up in it. Because of the conflict in Syria, which started nearly 10 years ago, an entire generation of children have missed out on an essential upbringing and education. This conflict will not only impact them now but for many years to come. We simply cannot stand by and let this happen. These children need a lifeline and Alhamdulillah Read Foundation is able to provide at least one of those lifelines. Read Foundation is on the ground in the Beqaa refugee camp, which I myself have visited in Lebanon. It is saving lives and also educating young minds in the process. I am proud to announce that Read Foundation has developed a school in a bus that caters to 300 children and provides them with the tools they need to learn and develop. These children are given books, learning materials, a mobile classroom with screens and Interactive whiteboards and they’re also given daily food, face masks and regular temperature check, due to the COVID pandemic. I urge you especially during this blessed ten days to give whatever you can. This is the best Sadaqa Jaria, providing to orphans and providing to the underprivileged children for the conflict in Syria, providing education and helping them to get through this difficult time. For just 30 pounds a month, that’s just a pound a day, you can provide valuable education, shelter, food and provision for a valuable orphan today. Simply visit readfoundation.org.uk or call 03000 121 121 now. Education is a fundamental right for anybody. Not only does it benefit individuals economically it also contributes positively to society. More importantly, it gives a child a ray of hope for a better future. The School in a Bus project looks to work within the difficult environment of the refugee camps and revive education for many Syrian refugee children. It has been reported that half of the Syrian refugee children aged 3 – 18 are out-of-school and denied a basic right because of the country’s upheaval. Human Rights Watch has stated that 210,000 school-age refugee children are in donor supported schools, illustrating how donor support is vital to the education of a Syrian refugee child in a time where other systems have failed them. The project aims to give 300 Syrian children aged 6 – 14 basic literacy and numeracy skills in conjunction with Lebanese educational standards and curriculum. The aim is to enable children to continue into the Lebanese education system.
