We have all been repeatedly told that the traditional college setting is the only path to success but the truth is that it is all but obsolete. Only one of our kids went the college route, but all have been successful with or without college. I have a series of podcast episodes where I interviewed each of our grown kids who shared their journey after high school. (I’ll leave links below.) This year, I’ve spoken at 9 homeschool conferences and I’ve noticed more and more alternatives being offered for high school graduates so I decided to start a series of episodes I will share periodically called, "College Alternatives". The world can feel like a scary place, but children need to feel safe and secure rather than growing up scared or sheltered from potential dangers. Today, Julie Lowe, a counselor, mom, and author, shares some ways that we can teach the safety skills that will help protect our kids from mistreatment, unsafe situations, violence, bullying, cybercrimes, predatory behavior, sexting, abuse and other kinds of danger they might encounter. As a veteran mom, I’ve seen many trends in parenting come and go and they seem to lean extremely toward either permissive or authoritative parenting styles that pendulum swing back and forth based on a reaction to the other side. As Christian parents, it’s essential that stay focused on Biblical parenting, regardless of the latest trends. Education is on the minds of parents now more than ever. With the push to teach Critical Race Theory and the LBGTQ agenda, parents are scrambling to make educational decisions that will protect their children. But was there even a day when our education system was neutral? Is this even possible? More importantly, what does GOD have to say about all of this? Have you ever wondered if God actually has an opinion when it comes to education? Do you believe that education can, in fact, be neutral? We all know that God calls us to worship on Sundays with other believers, but we are also biblically called to disciple our children and part of that means worship(time in the word and prayer with our kids) should be a daily practice. This can feel very intimidating and bring with those feelings an intense fear of failure that can keep us from enjoying the blessings that God intended family worship to be. Today Steve Demme is joining me to talk with us about ways to take the overwhelm out of family worship!
