Opposition. It's something we face from the time we begin making decisions for our children and intensifies when we decide to homeschool. Opposition can come at the most inopportune times and sometimes makes us feel as though we have been broadsided. Often it can make us feel inadequate. This is why it's imperative that we keep some very important principles at the forefront of our minds. Expecting opposition and positioning yourself to respond well will help grow your confidence and show your kids that homeschooling is a great choice for your family! (durendawilson.com) There has been so much going on in the world around us over the last 10 months and especially the last 2 months. It's been overwhelming for many of us and I have spent hours and hours seeking the Lord and asking him to give me a sustainable posture, in other words, a solid place where I can plant my feet and stay at peace. In that process, God has revealed places in my heart where I've built my house on rock...and places where I have built it on sand. My guess is that you can relate to this as well. In the meantime, we are still trying to be the wives and moms that God has called us to be. This creates an inner conflict because we have constantly been fed the lie that we have to be perfect moms and have everything together (or at least mostly together) or we will mess up our kids. Our desire to be good moms, more importantly, godly moms, is from the Lord, but the enemy twists that and uses it against us as he tries to make us believe that we have to have everything figured out. I think I can safely say that at this point we have far more questions than answers. But we serve a faithful loving God who sets our feet on solid ground! There seems to be a common myth that parents need to know everything (or almost everything) in order to give their kids a great home education. At the very least, they need to know as much as a trained teacher. That simply isn't true. Not that long ago, many of us didn’t really know all that was going on in the world. The internet brought unprecedented awareness and with the burden of knowledge. As we see the wickedness that takes place all around us, we are forced to answer certain questions: Why does God allow injustice? Why does He tolerate evil? These are hard questions…. We all have areas in our lives that are hard–things that happened beyond our control, things we feared would happen.  There are no easy answers to the hardest questions of life, but as believers, we have solid reasons to exercise our faith and trust in our very powerful, very good God! I’ve been praying about how to best address the issues that are facing us right now as moms. Although I will be talking about some of those specific concerns in upcoming podcasts, I have found that unless we start with the posture of our hearts, in other words, our spiritual state of heart and mind, all other counsel is a temporary fix at best. I have been spending copious amounts of time slowing down my heart and mind so I can hear from the Lord. It has literally been ongoing warfare. I have found anxiety to be a hedge that God has used in my life. What I mean by that is that God often puts boundaries on us physically, mentally, emotionally, even spiritually to keep us where He wants us because there is very important eternal work He wants to do in us. As humans, we bristle against boundaries, but David said in Psalm 16 “The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places, surely I have a delightful inheritance.” Though His boundaries may not feel pleasant, they are most certainly for our good. Most churches have been shut down for months now. Christians are being told that their voice doesn't matter and to make things even worse, many church leaders and members are using Romans 13 as an argument to remain silent and submissive. This is causing many believers(myself included) to question what our role is when it comes to politics and specifically the rights and duties of citizenship as it aligns with scripture.  I wasn’t confident that I could share a solid, biblical position using Romans 13, so I decided to invite someone I trust implicitly to faithfully handle this text and deliver it to you with clarity and precision. Today I have invited Pastor Wes (my pastor) to walk us through this very relevant and very important passage. Wes is married to Heather, they have 3 daughters and another little one on the way. They also homeschool their kids! I think you are going to be very encouraged!

As we wrestle with the challenges we are currently experiencing, many of us are asking questions like these: Can God rescue us from the problems we face? Can He save us from oppressive world powers? Can He break the power of our sin and help us deal with its consequences? These are pressing questions that every generation of Christians has asked and today we are going to find out how we can steer clear of panic/despair and anger and move toward joyfully engaging in the battle (that we will win) and delighting in our obedience to Christ! I'm pretty sure that Mary's dream was not to live out a story that seemed impossible to believe and yet, when God revealed His plan to her, her response was one of humble obedience. All of us have experienced and will experience defining moments when God changes the trajectory of our lives. Let's look more closely at Mary's example in order to glean truths that can help us respond when God flips the plan.
