Double Impact
Summary: Tristan + Greg are a couple of 90s kids, on a mission to re-watch every movie that meant something from their childhood. Each episode they review a 'classic' film from the 80s or 90s, and determine how it stacks up in the modern era. We use the term classic very loosely.

161 - Sorry for the delay folks, but we are BACK! Just in time to post an episode about Top Gun like every other movie podcast did last week... But hey, this is different - We go deeper, we pull at all the threads, we leave no stone unturned. We break down the origin story, the soundtrack, the beach volleyball, the legacy, the beach volleyball, and ultimately evaluate how it holds up in the roaring 2020s. Hope you enjoy!
Re-release because Tristan has covid, sorry gang
160 - Ladies and gentlemen, it's the world's most expensive direct to video movie - Legionnaire.
159 - It's the final episode in our New York miniseries, and we are spending it in the Bronx. Spoiler alert - A Bronx Tale is a GOOOOOOOOOD movie.
Greg is off enjoying his 40th birthday week! so it's a re-release this week, but a timely... time(?) to catch up on the OG Ghostbusters episode. It was only a matter of time before we covered this 80s icon. When we talk about revisiting the movies that impacted us as kids, they don't make them much bigger than this - but it's easy to take for granted the beautiful absurdity of this movie getting made in the 80s, when big budget special effects comedy was simply unheard of. We of course dive deep into this film's rich origin story, as well its cultural legacy today - but perhaps most importantly, we dive into the tin-foil-hat-wearing-lovable-crackpot that is Dan Aykroyd and his obsession with ghosts and aliens that made this movie possible in the first place.
158 - Ghostbuster sequels used to be rare. Slime, Vigo, Annie Potts with a new haircut - but how does it compare to the original - and indeed, to the more recent sequel attempts? Tune in and find out.
157 - FINALLY WE DID IT! Apologies for the delay folks, on our classic Rom Com debut of all episodes. We know there is a very vocal pocket of our audience that have been asking for more films like this one, and we listened - we just took way too long in actually getting to it! Well here it is, When Harry Met Sally. Hope you enjoy! PS. Genuinely sorry for the delay gang. Turns out moving overseas, finding a new job and apartment takes a fair amount of work.
Re-release - The movie that propelled Tom Hanks into the big time, as it were. It's also a movie that raises many questions in 2021. So... let's unpack it.
Yes this was supposed to be When Harry Met Sally week, but due to some cross-global issues, we haven't been able to record this week. So why not pull back an old episode we recorded pre-pandemic. Such a simpler time. And it Ghost, it's a New York love story. Its basically a Rom Com, Or Rom Horror? Who knows.
156 - Big movie this week. HUGE. The movie about the zany adventures of a taxi and its driver. The fell-good movie of 1976 - Taxi Driver! ENJOY!
155 - It's Week 2 of our New York mini-series. Last week we covered all of Manhattan, this week, we are zooming in on a little street by the name 'Wall'. It's got it all, Sushi, Pasta, at the same time - such was the excess of late-80s capitalism.
154 - Would you say New York City is sort of a main character in this film? YES! This is the first in our New York-based mini-series to celebrate our first episode recorded on opposite ends of the earth. Tristan is in NYC and Greg is in Sydney, and let's be honest, you can probably tell. It's a little lo-fi as we are back on our old amateur recording gear for the next couple of weeks - sorry! Things will get better in the coming weeks! YIPPEE KI YAY!
153 - Out of Sight. This is one of those movies you kinda forget exists, but it sits snuggly in the post-Tarantino / pre-2000s window, with the aesthetic to match. Join us for our last recording in-person before we go global, and we recorded it months ago... so beware outdated topical references...
152 - Finally, we are doing the THAMASS ACQUIYNASSS movie. What else do you need to know?
151 - The Bodyguard! Whitney Houston! Kevin Costner! Saxophone Solos!
