Matt Baum: 01:30 Would you believe me if I told you that it was easier to get marijuana, which is still completely illegal than it is to legally get hemp in Nebraska? Casey: 01:41 Oh yeah. I believe you 100%. Matt Baum: 01:43 It’s ridiculous, right? Casey: 01:44 Yeah. That seems really silly. Matt Baum: 01:50 This is Matt Baum and you’re listening to the Ministry of Hemp Podcast. And today we’re talking about supply chain, not just any supply chain, but of course the hemp supply chain. How hemp gets from the farm to the company that’s going to do with whatever it is they’re going to do with it, whether it’s making rope, making CBD, or putting it in food, and the

And just like anything else, it started pretty small. NoCo was put on by the Colorado Hemp Company, which is a division of WAFBA which stands for We Are Better For Alternatives, which I’m assuming means alternatives to wood, alternatives to plastic. Matt Baum: The basic idea was to get people that are excited about hemp and what you can do with it under one roof. To show it off, not just for industry people, but for people that want to know where this is going. It started very small, and now it has grown to huge size. 10,000 people plus attended NoCo6 this year. I was one of them, and today we’re going to explore my NoCo audio [inaudible 00:01:48].  Farming The Fields Of Green: The challenges of the Hemp grower in America | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:32:34

Welcome to episode 3 of the Ministry of Hemp Podcast! This time on the show we’re talking about what goes into hemp farming and the challenges facing today’s hemp farmer. This episode’s guests include: Our new Regulation Wrangler (cool title right?) Jenn Price from Golden State Govt. Relations where she serves as a consultant in the cannabis industry. Jenn opens the show talking about the challenges of USDA and FDA regulations that could slow down the industry. Josh Hendrix, Director of U.S. Hemp Production for CV Sciences, Inc and Plus CBD Oil, talks about hemp farming and the challenges of growing a crop that’s been illegal for 75 years. And finally, the show closes with an introduction to the Indigenous Perspectives of Hemp panel at this past NoCo Hemp Expo in Denver Colorado. Olowan Martinez of the Oglala Sioux Tribe spoke about a major issue facing tribes growing hemp on reservation lands that I hadn’t even considered. We want to hear from you too. Matt: Last time on the show we were talking about eating hemp and how to introduce it into your diet, but that hemp has got to come from somewhere. So today on the show we are going to look at hemp farming and the challenges that American hemp farmers face. Matt: Now, I’m sure you’ve heard that recently the 2018 Farm Bill passed, and that Farm Bill allowed farmers to start growing industrial hemp. The Farm Bill defines hemp as cannabis that contains less than .3 per cent THC. I’d love to tell you that was it and farmers everywhere are rejoicing, but there’s not quite hemp gold in those fields yet, son. Matt: Now that the government is involved, that means Uncle Sam has some rules and regulations that he’s going to need farmers in all 50 states to follow if they want to get in on growing hemp. Towards the end of last month, the FDA and the USDA made some announcements that they were going to open the floor to listen to representatives and their plans for how their states would like to grow hemp, sort of like the meeting of the committee to form a committee if you will. Matt: Of course there’s going to be lots of rules and regulations coming down, now I am not a lawyer, I only pretend to be one on my comic book show every once in a while. Not here, this is serious stuff. So I found the next best thing. Jen Price D.C.: Hi, I’m doctor Jen Price, D.C., I am the director of state compliance at Golden State Government Relations and I work with people on regulatory compliance for cannabis, and as hemp has become the big hot topic, we are transitioning towards helping folks with hemp as well. Matt: Jen is great, she is a super passionate cannabis activist, she is a doctor of chiropractic, and she knows her way around these legal rules and regulations pretty good, so I have made her the official Ministry of Hemp legal consultant. Bad news Jen, I’m afraid it doesn’t pay well. Jen Price D.C.: I just want to say, before I go into any of this, I am not a lawyer. I work in regulation and compliance so we are following all of this, I do work with all of this, but nothing I’m saying here is legal advice. Matt: Okay, so unlike lawyers you’re not full of B.S. is what you’re saying? Jen Price D.C.: Right, I’m just going to give it to you straigh

EPISODE TRANSCRIPT Matt: 00:04 Hey this is Matt with the Ministry of Hemp podcast welcoming you to episode two. Matt: 00:10 Now today you might notice I sound a little bit different because we’re going to be talking about hemp in food. So it only seems right to maybe start this show in my kitchen. And that’s where we are. Matt: 00:21 I’m here with my sous chef, a little black pug named Mable and we are making a hemp scramble for breakfast. It’s Sunday morning, super cold outside and I’m putting off shoveling. So why not make a protein packed scramble with some CBD goodness, to get the day started? Matt: 00:39 So we’re starting with a shallot. If you don’t know what a shallot is, a shallot is like an onion, times two. They’re amazing. They’re purple. I’m going to use half of one because I’m only making food for me today. Although, this little pug tends to get a little bit every time too. Matt: 00:54 From there, got some spinach that we’re going to chop up. This is a scramble so we’ve got some fresh, washed spinach. I’ve got some green onions. And I’m just going to rough chop this spinach. Do sort of a rough chop on the shallots as well. I like having big pieces of shallots in there. Matt: 01:20 Always wash your spinach. Even if you wash it when you first bought it, wash it again. It’s just a safe thing to do. Matt: 01:26 From there, I’m going to crack our eggs. Using three of them. Crack your egg on a flat surface, that’s going to prevent you from getting shells into your scrambled eggs. Matt: 01:42 And then another little trick I learned back when I was working in a hotel. You know how hotel eggs are always yellow and fluffy and huge? The trick is fat. So we are going to add just about a tablespoon of sour cream into our eggs. And then from there, we’re going to whip them up real good. And this is an important step because not only are we whipping the sour cream into the eggs, whipping air into the eggs too. And that’s what’s going to make them fluffy. Matt: 02:17 Get them good and whipped. The sour cream isn’t going to completely break down in there, but you will see it start to mix with the eggs real well. Just about ready here. I’m going to put a pinch of salt directly into the eggs. Matt: 02:42 And now we’re going to get into the action. So now, we head over to the stove. And this is where the hemp oil comes in. If you’re making eggs traditionally, you need butter. I’m using one tablespoon of melted butter. I’ve got my pan on the heat, just about medium. You don’t want to go too hot. Matt: 02:59 And because I am using full spectrum hemp oil, this

EPISODE TRANSCRIPT Matt Baum: Hi, my name’s Matt Baum, and I’m excited to welcome you to episode number one of the Ministry of Hemp podcast, brought to you by America’s leading advocate for hemp, ministryofhemp.com. If you’ve been to the site, then you already know how cool it is. It’s full of all kinds of information, recipes, interviews, news, virtually anything that you want to know about hemp is there. It’s curated by my buddy Kit, who is an amazing journalist and does a wonderful job. Kit is going to be a frequent guest on the show. In fact, he is going to talk a little bit about what is hemp in a few minutes here. Before we get to that, with this being episode number one, I thought we should introduce some very basic things, starting with me, the host, and how I came to bring hemp into my life. Matt’s story My name is Matt Baum. I’m 43 years old. I’m also the host of the Two-Headed Nerd Comic Book podcast. If you’re a nerd, check that out. You’ll probably dig it. For the last 30 years of my life or so, I’ve been playing drums as a musician, I’ve been working professionally in kitchens as a cook, and taking side gigs as a copywriter and freelance journalist. What do all those things have in common? Repetitive motion, basically. Now I played in a lot of very loud bands, punk rock bands, hardcore bands. I also played in some much quieter bands, but the point being I was always hitting drums, hitting cymbals, and injuring myself. I never learned how to play. I never took lessons. I sat down at the drums and just started playing one day. And in doing so, some of my favorite musicians were guys like Keith Moon, Tommy Lee, guys that hammered their drums. I just thought they put on an amazing show, so that’s what I did. I beat the hell out of my drums. I put on a show every time. With that, I beat the hell out of my hands, too. When I wasn’t drumming and touring in bands, I was at home working in kitchens, cooking. The good things about being a musician and a cook is whenever you’re not touring, there’s always cooking jobs available. But with those cooking jobs comes a lot of chopping, a lot of peeling, a lot of hand work, a lot of small, minute, finger work that really wears on you, not to mention the cutting, the burns, and the myriad of other injuries you can sustain while cooking. Needless to say, my hands weren’t getting any better. And then one day, I got into a car accident. I got hit head-on by a woman that crossed four lanes of traffic. It would turn out that she was a cab driver that had had a stroke behind the wheel while driving. She side-swiped a cop car in front of me which probably saved my life and slowed her down a little bit before plowing into my tiny, little Honda Civic. I was young and I was stupid, so I didn’t have a safety belt on at the time. My head hit the windshield. My right hand went through the dash, and my knee went into the lower part of the dash. I was supposed to leave and go on tour two weeks later with the band and had to canc
