Today, we see Yogis all around in myriad shades and colors – with nicely shampooed well groomed long flowing hair, wearing heavily embroidered white satin gown; with bald head covered by a colorful turban, wearing equally colorful designer outfit; with well trimmed hair barring a pigtail, wearing fashionable jeans trousers and stylish tee-shirt; and so on.
"Most people think that enjoying worldly pleasures is the prime goal of their life.
Each one of us is different in our own way. Some are very intelligent, some are dull headed, some may be arrogant and others may be even animal like. If we are all souls, then why are we different?
In the previous post we saw that any action creates problems irrespective of whether these actions are good or bad. At the same time, there is no way we can totally abstain from action! What is the way out?
As we saw in the previouspost, the three basic tendencies namely the Satwa, Rajas and Tamas motivate people to follow different paths.
Before we can think of freeing ourselves from the trap laid by the desires, we need to first understand the modus operandi of the desires.
In today’s scenario with so much emphasis on enjoying worldly pleasures, if some Buddha. or Patanjali, or Krishna. or Jesus cautions against, nobody is going to listen. Most people consider that such advices are meant for people who have renounced the world.
"Many a times we make some effort with some expectation. When we get what we sought for, we get elated and think ‘I have achieved’. But when we fail in our efforts, we get so depressed that we stop putting anymore efforts.
