Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles, your favoriter daily Florida State Seminoles sports podcast! Drake and Dave delight in yet another blowout victory, this time a 38-3 thrashing of Syracuse, as Florida State is playing at the highest level we’ve seen in several. First, Drake and Dave discuss the incredible development and play of the FSU defense, which held Syracuse (which, surprisingly, was able to start QB Garrett Shrader) without an offensive touchdown and to just 160 total yards. A resurgent secondary, complimenting a finally healthy defensive line, as well as the emergence of youngsters, has Florida State playing the confident, dominant defense of Seminole past. Next, the guys turn to the offensive side of the ball, where star QB Jordan Travis turned in yet another excellent and efficient performance consisting of 5 total TDs (3 passing, 1 rushing, and 1 receiving), but was perhaps overshadowed once again by yet another career-best rushing performance from RB Trey Benson, who averaged over 9 yards per carry en route to over 160 yards, and refused to be tackled. Some trickeration, and importantly getting 10+ receivers involved, led to a performance by the offense matching the dominance of the defense. Finally, they discuss their general feelings about this Florida State team and coaching staff following their 7th win of the year (3rd in a row) and second consecutive conference blowout, with the ability to notch a 10-win season for the first time since 2016. Drake and Dave relish in Florida State’s utter domination of a hapless and embarrassing Miami football team, and highlight the equally impressive play of the defense and the offense, as the Seminoles tie the largest margin of victory EVER in a road game in this rivalry, winning 45-3. First, Drake and Dave take a victory lap, explaining just how bad that Miami team is (and how much worse they’ve gotten) under $8 million head coach Mario Cristobal, as the Hurricanes not only didn’t belong on the same field as Florida State, but moreover they acted like they didn’t even want or care to be there. Contrast that to a Seminoles squad that understood the importance of the rivalry and making a statement therein, as all phases of FSU (including backups) kept their foot on Miami’s throat for 4 full quarters. Next, the guys gush over the play of the Florida State defense, with too many incredible individual and team efforts to list off in 30 minutes, including Jammie Robinson’s disrespectful TFL (the highlight of which will live on forever in this rivalry), Fabien Lovett’s uplifting presence for the defensive line and the defense as a whole, Tatum Bethune’s homecoming statement, Jared Verse thanking Miami for only adding to his soon-to-be NFL paycheck, youngsters such as Patrick Payton and AZ Thomas showing out, and plenty more. Finally, they highlight the play of the offense, starting with a monstrous, Dalvin Cook-like performance in which he refused to be tackled by Miami’s indifferent and undisciplined defenders, as well as an impressive performance by Jordan Travis (who wasn’t asked and didn’t have to do much in this one), incredible catches by Pokie Wilson and Johnny Wilson, and last but certainly not least a statement game from Florida State’s offensive line giving JT13 all the time he needed and opening up running lanes for the Seminoles’ stable of running backs (which didn’t even need Treshaun Ward in this one). Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles, your favorite daily Florida state Seminoles sports podcast! Drake and Dave break down Florida State’s remaining 5 games, offering win probabilities for each game on the hunt for a path to 4-1 and an eight-win season. The guys posit that Georgia Tech should be an easy win (and indeed a must-win), with its equally impotent defense and Jeff Sim-led offense.  They then assess Miami, which has wildly underperformed relative to preseason expectations (and the $80 million+ they paid to lure Mario Cristobal), and they believe a somewhat susceptible Miami defense should allow FSU to outscore the disappointing Hurricane offense led be Tyler Van Dyke. Next, Drake argues Syracuse will be the most difficult opponent and game left on the Seminoles’ schedule, as RB Sean Tucker and QB Garrett Shrader have run at-will on Cuse’s opponents thus far, while Dave contends the Orange have been boosted by an easy schedule and should be a key, decisive victory for Florida State. Then, they explain why FSU should cakewalk past a middling, Billy Napier-less Louisiana team, before moving to Napier’s new team, the Florida Gators. Both Drake and Dave believe this should be a victory for FSU, even if a narrow one, as Gators’ QB Anthony Richardson has struggled mightily throwing the football and the Florida defense just made LSU QB Jayden Daniels look like the second coming of Joe Burrow. Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles, your favorite daily Florida State Seminoles sports podcast! Drake and Dave return to their roots, providing a much-needed support group session after Florida State drops its third straight game, this time against the top-5 Clemson Tigers, explaining why it’s okay to recognize positives while being understandably upset with the results after starting 4-0. Where do we go from here? Listen in to find out. First, the guys take stock in where this team is at entering the bye week, contrasting FSU’s red hot 4-0 start against its three-game skid, after the Seminoles fall to Clemson 34-28. Next, they survey the many reasons to be upset that Florida State finds itself needed to finish 4-1 to win 8 games, especially after at least two winnable games against ranked NC State and, to a lesser degree, Wake Forest. Bottom line, the Seminoles need an influx of talent to escape the “lose-small” phase, and proceed to “win-small.” Then, they offer reasons for optimism, including improved play of numerous position groups and young contributors (especially on the defense). Finally, Drake and Dave discuss where we go from here and what we need to see this team accomplish down the stretch, as the Seminoles exit the bye week with a far easier slate of games that include bad Georgia Tech and Louisiana teams, arguably the worst Florida and Miami teams in some time, and Syracuse.
