Episode 83:  No one wants to buy what Greece and Radio Shack are selling.  Greece survives on European sponsored extortion subsidies/guarantees.  Radio Shack has been sustained by access to cheap credit. Greece may go bankrupt but they will survive.  Radio Shack has no future. Neither’s bankruptcy would prompt a financial meltdown.  Greece is too small, it would take Italy, Spain, or Portugal to throw Europe into a crisis.  Likewise, Radio Shack’s vacant US retail space will eventually be absorbed but watch out if Sears, JCPenney, Barnes&Noble, and Office Depot all shut down. Greek drama will ripple the markets over the coming weeks and months but it won’t collapse the Euro. Episode 82:  Don’t be fooled by political & financial double-speak.  Prices rise & fall because of two independent factors- Supply/Demand and Inflation/Deflation. Episode 79:  Today the market plunged after the Federal Reserve maintained their intent to raise interest rates sometime later this year.  The market seems to sense that once the euphoria of low fuel prices wears off there will be nothing to sustain the rally. A declining stock market during earnings season is never a good sign and is a worse omen at the beginning of the year.  The panic is evident with the yield on 10 year Treasures back to historic lows of 1.7%. Episode 71:  When it comes to identifying profitable tends, I believe the best tell to watch for are market anomalies.  Look for what’s different, an oddity…what’s not congruent.  An historic ratio that’s out-of-line, or a market leader that’s lagging. Anomalies can act as an early warning indicator of a change in market conditions. Episode 70:  If you’re not a regular user of your public library, do yourself a favor and go for a visit.  Have the librarian explain what resources are available to you FREE of charge through digital downloads and inter-library loan. Just about every book ever published is available in hardcopy via inter-library loan.  It may take a few weeks to receive, but if you have the time you can save a lot of money if you’re a voracious reader (which you should be). You’ll also be pleasantly surprised at the amount of subscription based info that you’ll have free access to.
