In Episode 085, Don and Derek have the pleasure of speaking with functional range and mobility pioneer, Dr. Andreo Spina. Dr. Spina starts off with a discussion around the term ‘mobility’ and how he defines it within his treatment system and his educational courses. He even touches on the approach to his own personal health and fitness. The discussion then jumps to the topic of spine and joint health, as it relates to mobility and stability. Dr. Spina speaks in great depth on the topics of movement and movement screening to maximize health and minimize the potential for injury, and also discusses the importance of addressing and managing pain on both a physical and psychological level.Dr. Spina holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from McMaster University. He later graduated with summa cum laude and clinic honors from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College as a Doctor of Chiropractic. He then completed a two-year post-graduate fellowship in Sports Sciences. He is the creator of the Functional Range Release (FR)® soft tissue management system, the Functional Range Conditioning (FRC)® mobility development system, and the Kinstretch™ method of movement stretching that are currently used by practitioners worldwide as well as a number of professional sports organizations, athletes, and performers.  Episode 084 - Ageing Gracefully with Exercise | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3081

In Episode 084, Don and Derek discuss the elephant in the room and the impact of ageing on their exercise routines. We are all ageing and there is not stopping that process. It’s no surprise that exercising when you are in your twenties looks a lot different than when you are in your forties or fifties. While Don and Derek may still be in great physical shape, and may even be more generally fit than when they were younger, there are still many challenges to staying healthy and fit as you get older. While aerobic and endurance abilities may be improved or maintained, speed and elastic abilities are very difficult to hold onto as you get beyond your thirties and forties. Strength can be improved and maintained, but as testosterone levels begin to decline dramatically, fatigue can be much more prevalent.Don and Derek discuss how they have managed to stay ahead of the curve with their fitness and athletic abilities despite the ageing process. They also point out the realities of getting older and how you have to embrace new limitations with a sense of humor. There are specific reasons why you can no longer do the things you so easily managed as a younger person. One of the big reasons is self-preservation and survival. But, there are still many things you can do to keep your mind and body in optimal working order if you just take the proper time, care and effort. The D&D Fitness Radio podcast is available at the following locations for downloadable audio, including: iTunes – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/d-d-fitness-radio-podcast/id1331724217iHeart Radio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/dd-fitness-radio-28797988/Spreaker.com – https://www.spreaker.com/show/d-and-d-fitness-radios-showYou can reach both Don and Derek at the following locations: Don Saladino: http://www.DonSaladino.com Twitter and Instagram - @DonSaladino YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/donsaladino Derek M.
